Obituary

Ammie Jean Williams Johnson was born on June 14, 1934, in Ingles, Arkansas to the parentage of Qunnie Williams and Lula (Williams) Atkins. Ammie accepted Christ at an early age at Gates Chapel A.M.E. Church in Crossett, Arkansas. Ammie grew up in Ingles and Crossett; and received her formal education at T.W. Daniels School. From an early age, she carried a spirit that was both generous and kind. Ammie possessed a deep, heartwarming compassion for others, with a heart that naturally leaned toward helping those in need. She was the kind of person who would give the shirt off her back or spend her last dollar just to bring a smile to someone’s face. Ammie met and married Herman Johnson. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and aunt who carried herself with wisdom, guidance, and quiet strength. She embodied unconditional love and patience in their purest forms - graceful, dignified, and endlessly compassionate. Ammie was a warm and welcoming soul who loved her family deeply and found true joy in spending time with them. She enjoyed fishing and hunting, pastimes she cherished and shared with her siblings. She also found great happiness in cooking for her family, especially preparing her favorite fish dishes. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered by all whose lives she touched. Ammie departed this earthly life on April 6, 2026, at the age of 91 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman Johnson; a son, Herman Johnson, Jr.; and five brothers. Ammie will forever be loved and remembered by her three devoted daughters, Lula M. Smith, Debbie J. Price and Virginia R. Johnson; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and twenty-four great -great grandchildren. Also left behind to cherish her loving memory are her sisters, Ethel Williams, Fannie Miles (Carl), Patricia Adams all of Crossett, Arkansas and Susan Gulley (Rodney) of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Alma Williams (Janice) and John Williams both of Crossett, Arkansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ammie’s faith in God carried her through life with strength and grace, and her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace in His presence. Her legacy will live on through the wisdom she shared, the love she poured into others, and the precious memories that will forever live in our hearts.
