Bennie Lee Barrett, Jr., was born on August 15, 1959, in Greenville, Texas. He was called home to eternal rest on January 12, 2026, in Greenville, Texas. Bennie Lee was the beloved son of Jessie Mae Barrett and Bennie Lee Barrett, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death.

Bennie Lee graduated from Greenville High School in 1977. He was a long-time and devoted member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas. Known for his love of music and community, he was also a proud member of the Buckaroos.

Bennie Lee discovered his passion for music at an early age, beginning his DJ career at just 16 years old. Affectionately known as the legendary "DJ Bennie Lee," he brought joy, smiles, and unforgettable memories to countless people for over 52 years through his music. He also served his country through work connected with the Air Force as an Aerospace Controller stationed around the world including Anchorage, Alaska and Phoenix, Arizona.

Bennie Lee leaves to cherish his memory his devoted children: LaTesha, Amber (Stan) Smalls, Corey (Piolanie) Stewart, Bennie Lee Barrett, III; and his godson, Tyrik Anderson.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amauri, Irelant "Juany," Grace, Jakob, Myriah, Jordan, Kwynzarian "Bubba," Jamie "Fat," Laila, Kamari, Kingsley, Landon, and Kenyhan; his loving brothers: Kenneth (Freddie), Horlos "Cotton," and Edward "Chon"; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
