Bennie Charles Boyd, Sr.  was born on September 9, 1937 in Longview, Texas. He was the first born child of Mr. Bennie (Leroy) Boyd and Mrs. Ruby (Tot) Harper Boyd. Bennie joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church at a very young age.

Bennie joined the United State Air Force in 1956. Once he returned home, he moved to Dallas. , Texas. He became married and raised a family and remained in Dallas, until God called him home. Bennie also drove for Supreme Beef and the Dallas Independent School District.

Bennie left this life to be with, his parents Bennie L. Boyd and Ruby Harper Boyd; brother Robert T. Boyd; sister Dora M. Whitaker; two sons Bennie C. Boyd, Jr. and Tony C. Boyd; and his grandparents, Sam Boyd, Gatha Harris, Thomas Harper, and Hattie Harper.

Those left to cherish the love and heartfelt memories of him are: his devoted and caring wife, Sherry M. Boyd; his children: Darlene A. Petty (Louise), Katie Scott (Derek), Wendy Boyd, and Karla Boyd (Pink); two brothers: Clyde H. Boyd and James E. Boyd; three sisters: Ella Faye Boyd, Patsy A. Shaw (Roger) and Annette E. Wallace; one uncle: Sam Boyd, Jr. and a host of other relatives and friends.
