Bennie Charles Mims, Sr. was born October 12, 1952 in Rockwall, TX to his parents, Henry Mims, Jr and Nancy Joe Williams. After attending school in the Rockwall Independent School District Bennie enlisted in the armed forces and was assigned to the United States Army basic training. After graduating basic training he was deployed where he fought and served in the Vietnam War. After proudly serving our country, Bennie was discharged with full military honors. Bennie returned to civilian life where he worked until he was eligible to enjoy his full retirement. Bennie passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 in Fort Smith, AR due to complications following lung cancer. He was 65 years of age.
Bennie met and married Kathy Mack on February 12, 1978. To this union, one son (the pride of his life), Bennie Mims, Jr. was born. Bennie and Kathy are grandparents to two beautiful grandchildren.
On January 5, 1998, Bennie married Joyce Moreland of Terrell, TX. Bennie and Joyce are parents to two children, Rickey Moreland and Shmika Willis; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a special niece, Angel.
Bennie lived the duration of his life with his special friend, Susan Wilson in Fort Smith, AR.
Bennie is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Mims, Jr and Nancy Joe Williams; his sister, Norma Jean Cleaver; his nephew, Alex and niece, Carla.
Bennie is survived by his six brothers, Kenneth, Cecil, Randy, Kevin, Anthony (Maria) and David Mims; three sisters, Emma, Kathy (Leroy) and Etta Rose; his son and daughter-in-law, Benji and Coty Mims of Chicago, IL; his son, Rickey Moreland; his daughter, Shmika Willis; his grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of good friends and extended family.
