Our beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, slipped into the arms of our precious Lord Jesus Christ on November 30, 2018.
Betsy K. Blackwood was born on May 12, 1936 in Akron, Ohio to the late Lucius L. Jefferies and Mattie Kate Daniels (Ben L. Daniels).
Betsy started out as a sales clerk at Bloomindales in New York and Robinson, she then went to Goodyear Aero Space School of electronics. She worked at Highway Products, placing the electrical cables on buses. In 1983 she went to Nursing School at Saint Thomas Hospital and became a registered nurse, she was board certified in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. She retired twice but could not stop working because she loved what she did, and so she worked for North Coast State Hospital in Akron, Ohio for over 20 years, Akron General Hospital and a few other facilities until she moved to Texas. She worked different jobs, and her last job was at Sundance Mental Health Hospital in Garland, Texas. She was 81 years old, became ill and finally stopped.
She was also a part of the Akron Hustlers Bowling Club for over 20 years where she was able to travel to different states. She left Akron, Ohio in 2010 and moved in with her daughter Valerie and son-in-law John Quincy Jones. She joined New Jerusalem Church of God and found Jesus. She loved life, her family, her church family and her friends. She was a big part of the Media Ministry Group at New Jerusalem Church of God and will be greatly missed. She was a giver of herself and loved people, always speaking and telling people about the Lord. She will now rest in the Arms of Jesus.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Eugene Blackwood III and siblings: Lucius Jeffries (Marceline), Willie Jeffries (Kim), Beauford Jeffries (Pola), Helen Foster (Jeff), Sylvia Sanders (Rufus) and Vira Shelton.
