Mother Bettie Jean Battle, a cherished figure from Dallas, Texas, was born to Theadore and
Coreine David. Raised by her mother and stepfather, Neal Rogers, in Plano and Garland, Texas,
Bettie showed early promise as a cook, starting at Scott's Cafe at age 12. She attended Lincoln
High School while living with her Aunt Lily in South Dallas.

Following the illness of her mother, Bettie left school to care for her family until her death. She
married Robert Giddens, who passed unexpectedly shortly after their marriage. Bettie then
dedicated her life to raising her four children, including two with Sickle Cell Anemia, with
unwavering love and faith in Jesus Christ. Her hard work ensured her children's success,
including Joyce Giddens-Steadham, for whom a Garland school is named.

A pillar of her community, Bettie was active in the Bellaire Neighborhood Association, Carver
School PTA, and Sims Chapel Baptist Church's Women's Mission Group. She also supported the
Write Way Prison Ministry and various charitable organizations. She remained independent
until age 94 and celebrated her 95th birthday before her passing.

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, first husband Robert Giddens, her
beloved H.B. Battle who raised her children and grandchildren, six children, and granddaughter
Kenshae Giddens. She is survived by grandchildren Daylon and Chad Giddens; great-
grandchildren Joshua, Kaylon, Caleb, Jayden, Kylee, and Lilyana Giddens; and a wide circle of
friends and family who remember her with deep affection and gratitude.
