IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Jean
Hogg
August 10, 1942 – July 16, 2025
Betty Jean Hogg was born on August 10th 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas to Marvin Johnson and Robbie Lee Pointer -Johnson. She was the oldest of (6) siblings, Dennis (Deceased), Pat (Deceased), Donald Ray (Deceased), and twins Michael & Michelle. They grew up in Arlington, Texas in the Historical Neighborhood known as "The Hill." Reared and raised in a small shotgun style home Betty began honing her Motherly Leadership skills by helping her Mother take care of her siblings.
Betty attended the legally segregated Booker T. Washington Elementary school located within The Hill Community and later attended and graduated from the legally segregated & historical I.M. Terrell High School in Ft. Worth, Tx.
Betty accepted Jesus The Christ as her Lord and personal Savior at the age of 14 years old (1956) and was baptized as she officially joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas under the Leadership of the late Rev. D.B. Brown who served as Pastor. Betty, who was always singing, officially joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church Senior Choir at the tender age of just 16 years old (1958) under the watchful eye of the Adult women Choir members. She immediately began singing & shouting while often singing the Hymn of preparation before many of Pastor N.L. Robinson sermons upon him becoming Pastor in 1966. Her singing reflected her deep commitment & conviction of her unwavering faith in Jesus through singing & praising her Savior all the day long. Betty was unashamed worshipping and singing praises as a teenager and throughout the remainder of her earthly life.
On Monday, October 10th 1966, Betty united in Holy Matrimony with her neighborhood crush Earl Gene Hogg. They were driven to the Weatherford, Texas Courthouse by Earl's best friend - Willie "Preacher" Stafford who served as both wedding chauffeur & Best Man. And to this union were born (2) boys, the oldest -David Earl Hogg & the youngest Joseph Earl Hogg.
Betty leaves to cherish her memories her beloved Earl Gene; devoted husband of 59 years, and her two sons David (Jo) and Joseph, and her hearts - Grandsons Jeffrey Lipscomb and David Earl Hogg II, who affectionately called her Nana; siblings the twins, Michael (Patsy) and Michelle and countless other nieces, nephews, cousins, and fri
ends.
