IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty
Prince
April 28, 1954 – September 24, 2025
Betty Jo Prince, an adored mother, passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2025 in Plano, Texas; and went to be with the Lord.
While known as Betty, BJ or by the neighborhood as "Mom", for many, she was full of life and deeply loved, cherished, and highly respected. Betty enjoyed hanging out with family and friends; and with anyone in the community, where she developed close relationships and deeply appreciated their camaraderie. Her legacy of love will continue in all who knew her.
Born on April 28, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Ernestine McGrew and Nathaniel Willis, Betty was a beloved daughter who lived life defined by love, faith and family. Growing up, the family often traveled to Oklahoma where most of her aunts, uncles and cousins lived. Betty attended Ennis High School in Ennis, TX; and she worked for Capital Wire & Cable, Mervyns, US Brass Corporation, and the Plano Independent School District, all located in Plano, TX.
Betty lived life boldly, joyfully, and unapologetically – she found her true joy in family, music, making home cooked meals and laughter. Her greatest joy was family, since she was an only child. She was fun, loving, and devoted to her children with whom she shared an especially close bond.
Betty was known for her vibrant spirit and warm heart and determination that will continue to inspire us all. Simply put – she loved life to the fullest. Betty loved taking care of people. She would drive people to appointments, and she would help anyone that was in need. Betty was a person that would give her last to anyone. Betty's motto was that no one should ever be hungry, and her door was open to anyone. Prior to Betty's health diagnosis, she loved to play bingo, watching scary "thrillers" movies, being on her computer tablet and word searches.
On Sundays, watching her ministries on TV and listening to her gospel music was a weekly practice for Betty; her faith was strong and sure. Her prayers were daily and unending. Known for her unwavering courage and love for life, she found joy in life's simple pleasures. Betty stood firmly for what she believed, never hesitating to speak up for others. To know Betty was to know someone who would have your back – no matter what. Betty was a friend to all; she will deeply be missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine and Nathaniel; her first husband, Tommy Thompson; second husband, best friend and father of her children, Maurice Prince; and her devoted love for over thirty years, John Herod.
She is survived by her children - sons, Kevin Thompson (Veszna) of Allen, TX, Robert Prince (Jennifer) of Plano, TX; daughters, Vivian Connally and LaQuisha Thompson (Michael) both of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Lathaniel "Nate" Thompson, Kiara Thompson, and Anthony Haskett, Jr.; uncle, Johnny "Donnie" Bishop; and one of her favorite aunts, Dorothy Smith - who always found a way to come visit "her Betty."
Betty leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unforgettable memories that will echo in the hearts of a wide circle of extended family and dear friends who were fortunate to know her. Betty's life was a beautiful testament, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all.
