IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bettye Ann
Jones
April 6, 1943 – July 14, 2021
Bettye Ann Jones was born on April 6, 1943, in Omaha, Texas to Raymond and Hattie Jones. The family moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in the 1950's. She attended Dalworth School, where she graduated in the class of 1962. She was an outstanding student and participated in both the Dalworth School Pep Squad and the Dalworth Choir. She later married Albert Ray Hood, with whom she shared one son.
Upon graduating high school, she learned to make hats in millinery school.
Bettye accepted Christ at an early age and united with Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor J.S. Simmins. She served as Vice President of Junior Mission, Senior Saints, Hospitality, Church Anniversary and Culinary Ministries.
Bettye lived life to the fullest. She was an outgoing person who loved to travel and have fun. She organized her family's Thanksgiving shopping trips with her sisters and sisters-in-law. She participated in several trips organized by The Summit of Grand Prairie. They would always call if they noticed she hadn't signed up so they could save her a seat up front.
Bettye loved being around people. She never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. Her love was genuine, and she found joy in being around people. If you never had Sunday dinner at her house, you missed a treat. She loved to see her kids and their friends getting together having fun. Cooking was her specialty which was shown when she cooked for The Grand Prairie Weed and Seed Reentry STARS Program.
Bettye laughed frequently and her laugh illuminated the room. When she laughed the joy, you felt from being around her was pure delight. She was always full of excitement, never complained, and rejoiced in good and bad times.
Bettye was a member of the Dalworth School Alumni. She looked forward to their annual Dalworth School Reunions. She was a member of The Red Hat Society of Grand Prairie.
Bettye was employed at Texas Instruments, Johnson & Johnson, and The City of Grand Prairie Municipal Court where she later retired in 2008. The friendships and relationships she built were dear and priceless to her heart.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Hattie Jones; sons, Dexter Ray Hood and Kirk Jones; brothers, James, Raymond, Bob, Lee, and John Jones; sisters, Lois Jones and Lorene West.
Precious memories of Bettye will be cherished by her daughters: Dawn Jackson (Calvin) of Duncanville, Texas, and Tarrance Jones of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandchildren: Wesley Jackson (Myka) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Whitney Jackson of Richardson, Texas, London Stewart of Denver, Colorado, and Eriel Perrodin of Grand Prairie, Texas; brothers: Joe (Betty) of Denver, Colorado, and Earl (Lois) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters: Loretta Buchanan (Robert) of Ft Worth, Texas, Nona Walker of Desoto, Texas, Mildred Alexander, Soloma Gates and Sheila Jones of Grand Prairie, Texas; sister-in-law: Bertha Jones of Arlington, Texas; four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; god sons, Harry Spivey (Melissa) of Grand Prairie, Texas; Milton Davis (Kathryn) of Desoto, Texas; Special friends, Imogene Waters and Azzie Hill.
