IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bishop James
Brock Jr.
January 17, 1941 – January 7, 2025
Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
Bishop James Brock, Jr. passed away from natural causes on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. He was born on January 17, 1941, in Land, Alabama, to Creola Anderson and James Brock, Sr. who both preceded him in death.
James met the love of his life, Miss Ethel L. Sewell, affectionately known as Betty Jean, while walking down the street. He recalled seeing her sitting on the porch and exclaimed, "Hey pretty black girl, you are going to be my girlfriend." Two years later, on July 2, 1962, in Mobile, Alabama, they were united in holy matrimony and were blessed with seven children. Their marriage, filled with love and devotion, lasted 62 years.
Throughout his life, Bishop Brock retired from three careers:
• National Grocers Big D in Mobile, Alabama
• Maintenance Supervisor for the City of DeSoto, Texas
• School Bus Driver for the Dallas Independent School District
James accepted his call to the ministry in 1968 under the pastoral leadership of the late Mother Janie Lee Williams at the Church of God House of Deliverance. After her passing, he relocated to Grand Prairie, Texas, where he founded House of Deliverance Outreach Ministries. He was ordained as a Bishop in July 2006 by the late Bishop C.E. Hughes. In 2017, he became a member of True Holiness Gospel Church INC. in Dallas, Texas, under the leadership of the late Apostle Mary Gaston, serving faithfully until his death.
When he wasn't preaching, praying, or singing about Jesus, James enjoyed working with his hands. He was a man of many trades, including tax preparation, AC repair, and he was well-known for his BBQ skills. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
Bishop James Brock, Jr. was preceded in death by his grandmother, Catherine Anderson; brothers, Dan Witherspoon and Joseph Durant of Tallahassee, Florida; sisters, Michele Hiedel of Tallahassee, Florida and Emma Brock-Williams of Mobile, Alabama; and grandsons, Antonio Yow of Mobile, Alabama and Cedric Brock II of Grand Prairie, Texas.
He leaves to cherish the love of his life, his Betty Jean; his children, Angela Hamilton (Steve) of Grand Bay, Alabama, Elton Brock of Duncanville, Texas, Kencia Jones (Marcus) of Little Elm, Texas, James Brock III of Dallas, Texas, Yvette Brown (Darrell) of Desoto, Texas, Cedric Brock (Amanda) of Red Oak, Texas, and Glennis Young of Glenn Heights, Texas. In addition, two brothers, Larry
Durant and Royland Durant of Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and
his True Holiness Gospel Church, Inc. family and friends.
