Obituary

Charles Ray Chester was born on June 4, 1958, to the parentage of Denver "DJ" Jones and Mattie Louise Chester in Terrell, Texas. He attended schools in Garland ISD and graduated from Garland High School in 1976.

On June 18, 1983, Charles married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Chester. From this loving union, they were blessed with three children: Lenny Benson, LaShaunda Stoker, and Kamesha Chester.

Charles was a man who truly enjoyed life. He loved playing dominos, shooting pool, and making people laugh — he never met a stranger. His joy was contagious, and he always found a way to share the goodness of God with everyone he encountered. He deeply loved his family, friends, and church family. He especially loved his mother, Mattie Louise Chester, who will miss him immensely.

Charles gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon. He was also a proud member of the Garland Area Brotherhood. He loved to sing, dance, and worship — praising God with all his heart and joyfully encouraging others to do the same.

He will forever be remembered as a wonderful man of God with an infectious laugh and the warmest, most comforting hugs. You could always count on him to say, "Let me get that hand, sister or brother," followed by his unforgettable laughter.

Charles fulfilled his purpose here on earth and peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on October 14, 2025. He was welcomed into eternity by his father, Denver "DJ" Jones; his brother, David James Chester; his niece, Brittney Strange; his nephew, Desmond D. Jones; and his great-nephew, Victor D. Antione.

Charles leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife, Patricia Chester; his loving mother, Mattie Louise Chester; his son, Lenny Benson (Jillian Benson); and his daughters, LaShaunda Stoker and Kamesha Chester. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: grandsons Shaun Stoker and Malcolm Benson; granddaughters Janeshia Lewis, Morgan Al-Amin, Jordan Jones, Christan Stoker, and Madison Benson; and great-granddaughters Storíe and Ava Lewis.

He is also survived by his five sisters: Debra Ann Chester, Rhonda Brown (Nathan), Donna Jones, Dorothea "Thea" Robinson (Reginald), Lynndora "Lynn" Jones-Ransom, and Anderia Langley (Eric); and four brothers: Bruce Chester (Paulette), Ricky Chester, Eric Chester, and Reginald Jones.

He also leaves behind his beloved Aunt Ida McBride; his loving and devoted in-laws, Jerry and Rhonda Brooks; and a host of nieces and nephews — including his special niece, Erica Cash — along with other loving relatives and friends who will forever hold him dear in their hearts.

Charles Ray Chester will always be remembered as a man who walked in faith, love, laughter, and praise — a true reflection of God's grace and joy.
