Cheryl Annette Steele was born to the late Mary Lou Burton and the late James Edward Steele on August 08, 1962, in Waldo, Arkansas. Cheryl departed this earthly life on Sunday, February 08, 2026.
Cheryl accepted Christ in her life at an early age at Unity Baptist Church in Lewisville, Arkansas. She rededicated her life to Christ under the fellowship of Agape Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Charles E. Johnson Sr., who also went on home to rest in paradise on February 05, 2026. God called both of His soldiers home to rest three days apart.
Cheryl graduated from Lewisville High School in 1981. She briefly moved to Mississippi right out of high school, but later that same year, she moved to Dallas, Texas, which was more her speed. Cheryl worked at Harley-Davidson for a short period. She spent the remainder of her years loving and caring for her loved ones until she became ill.
Cheryl leaves to cherish her memories, her only son, Courtney Steele, and his wife, LaQuota Birden-Steele; four children, Traveon, Tairyia, TaiOvon Birden-Steele, and Shamiyah Perry; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all from Dallas, Texas.
Cheryl leaves six siblings and their spouses also to cherish her memories: her sister, Sherry Steele of Nash, Texas; her five brothers, Chester (Roxanne) Randall, Aaron (Gwendolyn) Hawthorne and Michael Steele all from Dallas, Texas, Joseph (Crystal) Powell of Fort Worth, Texas, Glenn Martin of Texarkana, Texas; and a God sister, Vera Mae Featherson of Stamps, Arkansas.
Cheryl also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins from Longview, Texas, and aunts and uncles from Memphis, Tennessee, to cherish her memories.
The Family Members Who Preceded Cheryl in Death
Cheryl had two sisters, Marilyn Martin and Kathryn Burton, and two brothers who journeyed on ahead of her. Her brothers were Lee Herman Beasley and Christopher GB Powell, and her favorite niece, Cierra Shantae Hawthorne. Her two Uncles, Jerald W. Burton, Marion 'Bud' Burton, and Grandfather Ananias Burton, all from Longview, Texas. One Aunt from Las Vegas, Nevada, Annie Rae Berlin. Her Uncles James Burton from Dallas, Texas, and Otis Burton from Kentucky.
