Clarence "Torts" Henry Maire was born August 18, 1941, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Clarence entered eternal rest with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the age of 81 years, in Dallas, Texas.
Clarence was the son of the late Manuel Maire, Sr., and Mercedes Kennedy Maire. Clarence was the youngest of the family; the last of ten children.
Clarence started working at the world-renowned Galatories' Restaurant, located in the historic French Quarter, when he was a teenager. He retired after 34 years of dedicated service. He shared with his family a love for the city of New Orleans, its food, parades, horseracing, and its many festivals and unique music.
Clarence is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 16 years, Edna Ida Pomfrey Maire. His nine siblings: Solida (Walter Ersinto), Marguerite (Sidney Williams), Manuel (Doris), Lionel, Ferdinand, Raymond, Christopher, Lawrence (Myrna) and Mercedes (Lawrence Joseph LeBlanc, Sr). Father in Law; Arthur Pomfrey Sr. and Mother in Law, Eleanor Dimbo Pomfrey, Brother in Law, Arthur Pomfrey (Ella), Sister in Law; Lydia Theresa Pomfrey Scott (Clarence), and Sister in Law; Catherine A. Pomfrey Kisack (Steve).
Clarence is survived by his daughters: Darnell M. Léonard (Richard), Genetta M. Johnson (Darwin), Veronica M. Barard (Herman), and son: Patrick H. Maire. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Brandon J. Léonard ( fiancé Jessie ), Jareth R. Léonard, Mahara S. Léonard, Darwin Johnson, Jr. (Adrian), Traci Johnson (Mansa), Deandra Johnson, Christopher L. Johnson, Jonathan J. Barard (Tanya), Herman J. Barard, III. (Shayna), Tiffany A. Barard, Patricia M. Maire, Patrick H. Maire, Jr., Synayi S. Maire, and Jaleal Hampton; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, Brother in laws; Joseph Pomfrey Sr. and Werlin Pomfrey Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
