Cleveland Jewel Armstrong was born on April 27, 1939, in Ore City, Texas, to the late Steele Armstrong and Gertrude Davis Armstrong. He was the second oldest of eight children and learned the value of hard work and sacrifice at an early age. As a young boy, Cleveland and his brothers left school to help provide for their family. Although he received only about a third -grade education, he possessed a lifetime of wisdom, determination, and skill that no classroom could teach.

In his early twenties, Cleveland and his family moved to Greenville, Texas, in search of better opportunities. During those years, he worked alongside his family doing whatever was necessary to make a living, including pig farming and cutting puckwood.

On September 19th, 1961, Cleveland married Earnestine Armstrong. To this union, four children were born. In 1968, the family relocated to Garland, Texas, where Cleveland would faithfully reside in the same home for the next 58 years.

Throughout his career, Cleveland was employed by N.C. Cole, Intercontinental, and Fox & Jacobs. In 1980, he fulfilled a dream of becoming his own boss by founding Armstrong Remodeling. Through his craftsmanship, honesty, and strong work ethic, he built a respected business that became known throughout the community. His son, nephews, and close friends were instrumental in helping establish the company, working alongside him and spreading his reputation through word of mouth. Cleveland took great pride in mentoring those around him and leaving behind a legacy of hard work and excellence.

As a man of faith, Cleveland was a dedicated member of El Bethel Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon for 45 years. His unwavering commitment to his church, family, and community reflected the strength of his character and his love for the Lord. He remained active in his ministry until declining health no longer allowed him to serve.

Cleveland was preceded in death by his parents, Steele and Gertrude Armstrong; his first wife, Earnestine Armstrong; his beloved daughter, Brenda Armstrong; his sisters, MaeDell Armstrong, Erma Jackson, and Dessie Armstrong; and his brothers, J.D. Armstrong, Freeman Armstrong, and Robert Armstrong. As well as a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lillie Jackson; his brother, Odell Armstrong; his children, long time caretaker and son Cleveland Armstrong, Jr, daughters Patricia Singletary, Ruby Grant, Yvonne Johnson, and Ebony Armstrong, and son Chad Davis; his grandchildren, Marissa Singletary (Terrance), Mariah Singletary, and Adrian Price; his special friend, Doris Davis; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness, wisdom, and love.
