Coy C. Tarver... The Legacy
Coy was a loving and caring husband, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather and friend. He transitioned peacefully from his earthly vessel on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given (Isaiah 9:6)
Coy AKA "Buddy" was born October 30, 1932, to proud parents Carl & Olevia Tarver by a midwife in Cass County, TX. He was raised up in Lake O Pines, Texas. He had nine siblings. He left school in the 6th grade to help his father support the family.
Coy was a hard worker all his life. He met his wife in 1948, Lillie Rockwell who later became Lillie Tarver in 1952 when they were married. From that union they were blessed with 7 children. To keep his family on track, they later joined the Shiloh Church of God in Christ of McKinney, TX in 1969 under the late Bishop Frank W Smith. God spoke to him in 1979 to venture out on their own, so the legacy began. They started services in Bonham, TX with just a few of the children, 2 sisters and friends. In 1980, they moved the church to Greenville, TX. The vision and the dream were coming to pass. In 1982, they started having services in McKinney's Old Doty High School until the current location was finished being built which you know now as Greater Hope Holiness Church at its current location 1207 Anthony St. McKinney, TX. The church began to flourish and had to be enlarged a couple of times. It produced singers, musicians and ministers all under his vision to branch out. In 2007, he lost the love of his life when his wife Lillie died and many tragic unexpected deaths would later follow, but he stayed strong never to see him quit.
Coy reacquainted with an old high school friend, Dorothy Hodge who became First Lady Tarver as she helped support and take care of him for 17 years until his death.
On the 29th day of October 2022, Coy was honored for being a pillar in the community and the oldest tenured pastor of McKinney Eastside by McKinney Mayor, George Fuller. A Proclamation was created declaring October 29th (the day before his birthday) Pastor Coy C. Tarver Day in the City of McKinney!
His legacy through his bloodline and teachings will continue and never be forgotten. Job well done, Pastor Coy C. Tarver...rest well.
