"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which is the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at the last day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his opportunity..." - II Timothy 4:7-8.
Rev. David Harold Johnson, Jr. was born and reared in Dallas, Texas. He was taught the word of God in his Christian home with his mother and father, Rev. David Harold Johnson, Sr and Rose Francis White, and his grandparents Rev. & Mrs. Alvin white, Sr., His father was Pastor of the Good Shepard Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas until his retirement. There were inspirational people in his life, Rev. Robert Dunklin, Sr., Sis. Jimmie Johnson, Sis Abbie Gaston, Sis. Wilma Bennett and his Aunt Mary Lou Cumby.
David received his formal education in the Dallas Independent School District. He was a graduate of the D. Edwin Johnson Institute, David also attended the Criswell College of Dallas, Texas 2000 to 2003, where he regularly attended classes. David had a passion for studying the like of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Rev. D.H. Johnson, Jr. was a lifelong member of the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was born and raised under the Rev. Alvin White, Sr., his grandfather. He received his calling/commission to his ministry at an early age. He was later licensed to preach the gospel at the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, in Dallas, Texas, Rev. Alvin White, Sr., Pastor. June 04, 2005, David received his ordination at the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of his uncle, Rev. S.L. Johnson, Sr. Rev. S.L. Johnson, mentored him as his pastor and his uncle and David faithfully served passionately as the associate minister of the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, he served in many capacities among them are singing in the Male Chorus where he sang his favorite songs, Trouble in My Way and Beams of Heaven, Superintendent of the Sunday church school until Pastor S.L. Johnson's passing.
Rev. D.H. Johnson, Jr., later joined and served at the Singing Hills Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. H.E. Anderson, Sr. he served as a member in the Minsters Class in Sunday Church School, he served faithfully at the Singing Hills Baptist Church until he demise.
David Harold Johnson, Jr. met and married his lifelong sweetheart, Miss. Sonja Renee King, they grew up together as babies in Greater Shiloh Church, they continued their journey in life as husband and wife at the Greater Shiloh Church and to this union two children were born, David Harold Johnson, III, and Desiree Johnson.
Rev. D.H. Johnson, Jr.'s greatest joy was serving the Lord Jesus Christ, seeing his children progress in life from his son DJ attending the prestigious Morehouse College to Desiree attending the University of Louisiana playing volleyball where he was called V-ball Dad, and he loved watching his nephews play select sports. David loved golf, he loved his coworkers at his job and his friendships with the Hilltop Securities employees.
David was a loving, caring, and protective of his Bro. Robert Dunklin, Jr., they visited regularly.
Those who proceeded him in death were his mother, Rose Francis Dunklin, his grandparents the Rev. Alvin White, Sr. & Mrs. L.R. White; Rev. J. Johnson, Sr. & Mrs. Corrine Johnson; loving brother in law, H. Lawrence King, and Sis. Freda Lee Sanders.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 23 years, Sonja King-Johnson; children David Harold (DJ) Johnson, III, Desiree Johnson; his father Rev. D.H. Johnson, Sr. (Faye); his brother Robert Dunklin, Jr., adoring mother in law Mrs. Patricia Johnson (Mr. P); sisters, Adrienne J. McKinney (Terry) and Sonya Brooks (Cleo); honorary brother, Terry McKinney; uncles Rev. Alvin White, Jr., Rev. Jeremiah Johnson, Jr. and Rev. J. Johnson a host of beloved nieces and nephews, loving cousins, caring church family members, family and friends.
"Beams of heaven as I go through this wilderness below guide my feet in peaceful ways... turn my midnights into days! There is a God who rules up above with hands of power and a heart of love.... and if I'm right he'll fight my battles and I shall be free someday."
