IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Debra A
Chester
April 17, 1957 – December 1, 2025
Debra Ann Chester was born on April 17, 1957, to Willie Miller and Mattie Louise Chester in Garland, Texas. From the moment she arrived, Debra was destined to break barriers and make history. In the Fall of 1963, when Black students were given the opportunity to integrate into white schools, she boldly chose to attend Central Elementary. She wanted the chance to learn more, to grow, and to rise-becoming one of the first students to integrate the school and leaving behind a legacy of courage that still echoes today.
Debra continued her education in Garland ISD and proudly graduated from Garland High School in 1975. At a young age, she gave her life to Christ at her family's church, Shiloh Missionary Church. She remained a faithful member of Shiloh until her passing. In early years, Debra was also a proud member of the Tommy Hopkins Inspirational Choir, lifting her voice in praise and carrying the joy of worship in her heart.
Her love for the Lord was unwavering; she carried His light everywhere she went, spreading joy, truth, and encouragement with every step.
On April 15, 1982, Debra welcomed her only child, her daughter - her pride, her joy, and her greatest blessing. To know Debra was to know her sweet yet sassy spirit, full of flavor and full of life. As her Pastor beautifully said, "She was a character you love to cheer for. She was like the ingredient that, if left out of the dish, you know something is missing. Her family -this world- will never be the same without that key ingredient from the recipe."
Debra is preceded in death by her father, Willie Miller; her sisters, Mary Jo Miller and Tina Miller; and her brothers, Glen Miller, David Chester, and Charles Chester.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted mother, Mattie Chester; her loving daughter, Erica Cash (Scoey); her bonus daughter, Doniqua Waldon; her bonus granddaughters, Jamayia Ford, Jhkyla Ford, and Jayla Ford; her beloved grandson, Xavier Foster; her sister, Joyce Miller; her brothers, Eric Chester, Ricky Chester, and Bruce Chester (Paulette); her aunt, Ida McBride; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her deeply.
Debra's life was a testimony of strength, faith, perseverance, and vibrant joy. Though she has taken her rest, her impact, her love, and her spirit will continue to live on in every life she touched.
