IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris Jean
Green
October 26, 1943 – January 11, 2021
Doris Jean Russell was born October 26, 1943 to the late Gussie Bates and Robert Russell in Dallas, TX at Parkland Hospital. She was raised by her grandmother, Pearline Griffin in the Dallas Community of Eagle Ford. She attended Booker T Washington High School.
Doris professed her faith in Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Eagle Ford. She served as church secretary and other leadership roles during her membership.
Sparks flew in 1954 when Doris met the love of her life, James Royce Green. On August 8, 1959, James and Doris began one of the greatest love stories of all times. Their union served 61 years as a living testimony of 1st Corinthians 13:4-8....Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. Their marriage was filled with an unbreakable bond of friendship, unconditional love, respect, adoration and was an inspiration to everyone that knew them. The creation of a family of one daughter, Latonnia and two sons, Venato and Kenyatta completed their lifelong bond of love.
Travel much? Yes, they did. Their love of adventure afforded them the opportunity to travel to Russia, Africa, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Alaska, Canada, Venezuela, Barbados, Bahamas, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands, London, Martinique, St Marteen and a host of other domestic travel destinations.
Doris was a true believer in retail therapy. Whether there was a sale or if the store was simply open, Doris was there. If it caught her eye, she was going to buy it. She once said, "buy it, hide it if you have to and ask for forgiveness later." Her nails were also another extravagant hobby that she enjoyed. She mastered the art of always striving to look and feel good.
Doris's passion was her family. She was affectionately known as "Di" by her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. James and Doris weren't simply grandparents. They honorably and proudly raised their grandchildren. She instilled strong values that continue to serve them well They attended every sporting event, every school function, graduations, recitals and various other celebratory occasions.
Doris is survived by her husband of sixty one and a half years, James, her daughter Latonnia, sons Venato (Shannon) and Kenyatta (Takelia).
