IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Earnest S
Jones
January 20, 1954 – January 11, 2026
Earnest Steven Jones was born on January 20, 1954, in Forest, Mississippi, to Robert and Eloise Jones. From this union, five children were born: George, Roy, Earnest, Billy, and Agnes. Roy, Billy, and Agnes preceded him in death.
Earnest received his education at Webster Elementary School and Marshall High School in Chicago, Illinois.
He was baptized as a child, and as a young adult, while walking the streets of Chicago, he accepted Christ as his Savior. He later joined King David Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Clarence Guyton.
In October 1983, Earnest married Phyllis Holman. From this union, two sons were born: Phillip Robert and Isaiah Steven. He also gained a beloved bonus daughter, Kimberly Mitchell.
After marriage, Earnest joined High Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in many capacities. He was Choir Superintendent, Chairman of the Deacons, and a member of the church's financial committee. He remained devoted to this church while working for more than 25 years at the United States Post Office.
Following his retirement, Earnest relocated to Plano, Texas, where he joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Isiah Joshua, Jr. There, he found community, purpose, and joy, and continued to serve with a willing heart until his passing.
Earnest served in many ministries, including Brother II Brother, Tuesday Night Bible Study, AWANA, the Security Team, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School (Class #5), Facilities Management, Sanitation, and the Transportation Ministry. He was always ready to serve wherever needed, regardless of how he was feeling.
On January 11, 2026, Earnest made his transition to glory. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Phillip (Krystal), Isaiah (Renee), and Kimberly Mitchell (James); two grandchildren, Taylor and Phillip Jr.; his brother, George Jones; a special brother, Patrick (Gloria); three goddaughters, Kori, Kayla, and Kennedy; one godson, Jason Ferguson; a special niece, Gail Daniels; a special cousin, Wilhelmina Burn; and two special friends who stood by him through it all, Jeanine Stewart and Leeann Cabe.
Earnest will be deeply missed but forever remembered. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by light and love.
