Obituary

Born and raised in the city that never sleeps, New Orleans, LA, Edrise Marie Newton came into this world with an authenticity and light that could never be dimmed. She was a woman defined by her kind heart, raw honesty, and unshakable resilience. Anyone who crossed her
path knew exactly who she was— a woman who spoke her truth with no hesitation, who loved boldly, and who carried herself with confidence and the essence of a true diva.

Glitz, glam, and divine feminine energy all came naturally to her. Edrise lived with a spirit of gratitude, attracting blessings with ease and moving through life in a way that inspired people to step into their own power. What made her unique wasn't just her style, but her presence. She had an incredible way of making herself at home wherever she went, and people admired her deeply for being such a present, devoted mother and grounding force.

Edrise was also a true jack of all trades, a woman who could pick up anything, learn it, master it, and make it look effortless. Whether it was caring for the home, supporting family, helping others, or doing whatever needed to be done, she handled it with skill, grace, and her signature confidence.

Though her childhood wasn't perfect, she rose above every obstacle placed in her path. Edrise grew into a powerful woman who held her own and stood firm in her truth. Her heart was enormous, constantly pouring herself into caring for others, always showing up, always loving, always giving. Whether she was shopping, laughing, or simply being herself, she moved through life with passion, softness, and strength.

Family was everything to Edrise. She loved her children fiercely and supported them through every chapter of their lives. She adored her grandbabies, caring for them with the same warmth and devotion that defined her entire life. In her family, she was the Rock, the Fire, and the
Glue. The rock, because she held everything down. The fire, because she spoke her mind and protected those she loved without hesitation. The glue, because her home was the gathering place - the center of countless celebrations, memories, and moments of joy.

The lessons Edrise left behind are ones her family will carry forever: take action, believe in your vision, and go after whatever your heart desires. Not only did she speak those words, she lived them. She was a woman who set goals and achieved them, no matter what stood in her way.

Edrise is preceded in death by her father, Ambrose Newton II; her brother, Ambrose Newton III; and her beloved life partner, Jasper Clifton, all of whom now welcome her into eternal peace.

Edrise leaves the following to cherish her memory: her loving children, Erin Newton,
Francisco Mejia Jr., and Raven Blackburn; four grandchildren, Faith Mejia, Francis Mejia,
Joshua Williams, Kamaiyah Equere; her devoted mother, Teresa Newton; six siblings: Eva
Opoku, Terry Newton, Kathy Newton-White, Tracey Newton, LaDonna Newton-Nichols
(Robert Nichols), and Olivia Newton; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and
great-nephews who loved her dearly.

More than anything, Edrise deserves to be remembered for her enormous heart, not the
hardships she endured. Her life was a testament to strength, femininity, perseverance,
creativity, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed, and her legacy will live on
forever.
