Edward Ellis affectionately known as "The Head Knocker" was born on October 3, 1942, in Plano, Texas to Mozelle Brooks and Marcus Ellis. He was also raised by his stepfather, Charles Henry Brooks, Sr.
Edward received his education in the Plano Independent School District. From a young age, he was raised in the church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, and was known for his sense of humor. Edward would bring laughter to those who spent time with him.
For 15 years, he was married to Betty Kimble, who is the mother of their children: Orlando Jay Ellis, Christopher Ellis, and Hope Martin. Later in life, he shared a loving, long-term relationship with Jennie Battle.
Edward honorably served his country in the United States Army during the late 60s, including a tour of duty in the Vietnam War.
After returning home, he built a career as a truck driver spanning more than two decades, followed by nine years of service at Restland Funeral Home until his retirement. Throughout his life, he remained dedicated to helping others, touching countless lives with his sense of humor, generosity and kindness.
He peacefully departed this life on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 9:37pm, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death
by his mother, Mozelle Brooks; father, Marcus Ellis; stepfather, Charles Henry Brooks, Sr.; sisters, Shirley Jean Ellis, Leslie Blacksmith Ellis, and Lee Edna (Brooks) Trimble; and brother, David Kirk Brooks.
Edward's legacy lives on through his children, Tora Smith (mother-Rose Smith), Anthony McKinzie (mother-Sherry McKinzie), Orlando Jay Ellis, Christopher Ellis, and Hope (Anthony) Martin.
Edward is also survived by his siblings, Charles Henry (Linda) Brooks, Elmo (Gwen) Brooks, Wydell Brooks, Gwen (Brooks) Burns, and John Michael (Dee) Brooks; along with numerous devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
