IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elmo
Monroe
August 6, 1939 – February 2, 2024
Mr. Elmo Monroe was born August 06, 1939, in Bryan, Texas to the parentage of J.T. Monroe and Alberta Thornton.
Elmo accepted Christ at an early age. He went to church with his mother and grandmother as a young boy. He received his formal education at public elementary and high schools in Bryan, Texas.
Elmo worked the fields chopping cotton. He later moved to Lubbock, Texas and then to Dallas, Texas where he worked years for the Richardson Independent School District at Skyview Elementary School until he retired.
Elmo was married to beautiful Julie Maxine Monroe of whom he was faithful to until her passing. Julie was the "apple of his eye".
Elmo had many gifts and talents; he was our very own "real" Cowboy. He loved the old western style of living. He enjoyed listening to gospel and blues music. He was known for his cooking and grilling. He loved playing dominoes, watching western and telling stories; he had the best stories about the good ole days!
Elmo was a care giver until he transitioned on February 2, 2024, at 10:31am. He fought a good fight.
Elmo is proceeded in death by two daughters, Maggie Faye Monroe and Julia Ann Washington; two sons, Robert Lee and Troy Lee; father and mother, J.T. Monroe and Alberta Thornton; a brother, Willie James Monroe; four sisters, Myrtle Smith, Bertha Mathis, Barbara
Scott and Alberta Bazy.
Elmo leaves to cherish his loving legacy, and sweet memories: five daughters, Delores, Betty Washington and Angela Gilstrap (Dallas, Texas), Sandra Monroe and Robin Westmoreland (Lubbock, Texas); four sons Elmo Jr., Joe and Thomas Monroe (Lubbock, Texas), and Oscar
Washington (Killeen Texas); twenty-three grandchildren, forty-seven great- grandchildren and a host of loving relatives and friends.
