Emory Clark
Ledbetter
July 21, 1954 – May 27, 2025
Emory Clark Ledbetter, Jr. was born July 21, 1954 in Rockdale, Texas to Emory Clark Ledbetter and Imie Mae Banks Ledbetter. He matriculated through the Houston Independent School District.
Affectionately known as "Skip or Skippy", he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He enlisted in US Army in September of 1974. He served in Vietnam and was a member of the National Guard during Desert Storm. He was proud to retire from military service in 2014. He was a peace officer serving in the Houston Airport Police Department for several years.
His first marriage to Mary Williams produced two daughters, Tamara Ledbetter and Samyra Ledbetter.
Later in life, he met and married the love of his life, Detra Ann Foster on December 19, 2015. Due to this union, he gained three daughters; Shebra Hackett, Shaquanta Foster, and Shadondra Foster; one son, Obra Hackett; and two bonus daughters; Marva Taylor and Jacquelyn Hunnicutt.
Emory united with Sunset Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas under the leadership of Dr. Matthew C. McGruder. He was a proud member of the Singing Men of Sunset. He was a faithful and dedicated member as long as his health permitted.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emory Clark Ledbetter, Sr. and Imie Mae Banks Ledbetter, and his brother, Gerald Anthony Ledbetter.
Emory is now watching over his beloved wife, Detra Ann Ledbetter; daughters, Shebra Hackett (Obra), Shaquanta Foster, Shadondra Foster, Jacquelyn Hunnicutt, Marva Taylor, Tamara Ledbetter, Samyra Ledbetter; two grandsons, Reginald Dunlap II and Jayden Wysinger; three granddaughters, Jessica Hackett, Reanna Dunlap, and Iyanna Taylor; one sister, Selina Ann Jackson; one sister in law, Netra Webb; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.
