IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Floyd Lee
Walter
January 5, 1971 – February 18, 2022
On January 5, 1971, a beautiful baby boy was born to late Diane Hall and late LaRomie Walter. He was their oldest son and lovingly they named him Floyd Lee Walter. He was the "big brother," of the family and at an early age. Floyd ensured his siblings Alma Davis, Darrell Walter (both deceased), and Tyshawn Walter, had whatever they needed to advance their future.
Floyd was taught how to be self-sufficient, and it was required that he not only attend, but graduate high school from Education and Social Service Magnet High School in Dallas, Texas. He then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from Suffolk University in Boston Massachusetts in 1997.
Immediately after graduating from high school Floyd enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country during Operation Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and the Gulf War. As a dedicated medic, he responded to the medical needs of active-duty soldiers and received many medals, awards, and honors on behalf of his bravery in service. After completing his deployment, Floyd returned home to Dallas and married his high school sweetheart, Sheterra, on September 14, 1991. Floyd was honorably discharged from the military in 1993, with their son Zacquet, daughter Brittany and last-born son, Briceson he and Sheterra made Dallas home. Floyd and Sheterra received added blessings when they welcomed their grandchildren, Joseph III (Jo Jo), Jayla and Jordan Roberts.
Floyd loved God from an early age. His pursuit of The Gospel began at Believers Tabernacle in Dallas, Texas. To increase their faith and grow spiritually, he and his family then united with the Community First Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor C.H. Gerald. They subsequently united with the Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church (MFBC), under the leadership of Dr. Terry M. Turner where Floyd served as the leader and mentor of the Ambassadors of Step (AOS), a member of the Men of Integrity, and any other area that he was able to help. After accepting the calling on his life, Floyd preached his first sermon at MFBC. Floyd loved the Lord and his family with all his heart.
Floyd believed in providing for his family and was employed with the Department of Veterans Affairs, at the VA North Texas Health in Dallas, for the more than 25 years. He was dependable, admired by his co-workers, and recently received a promotional transfer to the Garland, Texas, VA Medical Center.
Floyd was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed competitive sports activities, playing dominoes, and bid whist. Even if he was losing, he talked like he was winning. He also enjoyed fishing in the early hours of the morning.
Floyd will forever be in our hearts. He has left a lasting legacy that will be cherished by his wife, children, and grandchildren; Mother In Love: Shirley Anthony and Father In Love Mr. Douglas his nieces Elizabeth Bailey, Bernadette Davis and children; nephew Darrell Hubbard and family; Godchildren Travis and Logan Matthewson; along with a host of close family and friends.
We will remember the good times shared, honor his faith and continue to serve and honor our God. Although he is no longer physically with us, we know, in that great getting-up morning we shall meet, never to depart again.
