HIS LIFE:
Mr. Frank Gooden Jr.
Frank Gooden Jr. born on October 9, 1944 to Ida Mae West and
Frank Gooden Sr. in Monroe, Louisiana.
Frank was a graduate of Little Flowers Catholic School. He
played football at a young age. He was a singer and sang in
many places. He moved to Chicago, Illinois where he met his
wife, Mattie. They were married at Our Lady of Sorrows
Catholic Church in April 1966. Frank and Mattie were married
57 years. They had four children: Marcus, Marla, Frank III and
Anwar.
After moving to Texas, Frank was baptized as a Baptist. He was
very active with football and his boys (Dalworth Dragons and
Sam Houston High School). Frank was a strong, hardworking
and loving man of God. He worked two jobs to take care of his
family.
Frank escorted many brides down the aisle, and they all called
him "Pops". He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan and also loved Gardening
and Fishing. Frank was a truck driver and drove for Hanjin
Global Airlines Service.
On August 19, 2023, he was greeted at Heaven's gate by his
parents Ida Mae West and Frank Gooden Sr.; son Frank Gooden
III, sister Helen Marie Sanders; and two brothers Jeffery Gooden
and Warren West.
He leaves behind to celebrate his life: his devoted wife Mattie
Gooden; his loving children Marcus Gooden, Marla Debose and
Anwar Gooden; sister-in-law Tammy Colley; his grandchildren
Jerell Gooden (Texas) , Tiara Gooden (Atlanta, GA), Heaven
Nolly (Jacksonville, FL), Akacia Gooden (Beggs, Oklahoma),
Jamelia Debose, Chalia Debose, Kavon Debose and Terence
Hashaway (all of Texas); nine great grandchildren; his nieces
Nikki and Tabia Gooden (Irving, TX) and nephew Samuel
Young (Cedar Hill, TX); a host of friends and relatives in
Chicago, Illinois, Syracuse, New York and Monroe, Louisiana of
whom he loved.
Frank "Pops" Gooden Jr. was the very best father, husband - a
family man anyone could ask for. He will be greatly missed by
those who knew and loved him.
