IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fred Lee
Combs, Sr.
December 13, 1930 – February 18, 2020
Fred Lee Combs, Sr., 89, fondly known as "Booth", was born on December 13, 1930, in Forney, Texas to Mr. C.C. Combs and Mrs. Emma Moss. Fred, Sr. was the quintessential "Big Brother" to Christian "Tine", Doris, Bennie, and Rodger "Jim" Walker while growing up in Terrell, Texas. Fred Sr. was educated in Texas' public schools. Shortly after finishing his schooling, he met and married the late Ms. Pearline Pipkins and to this union, two children were born: Michael and Ive, both of Los Angeles, California.
In 1957, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1968.
In 1972, he married his forever love, Ms. Geneva "Marie" Miller, of San Antonio, Texas. Fred, Sr. and Marie's union was joyfully blessed with Oliva Marie, David, Nathan, Fred, Jr., Timothy, Frederick, and Karen of Denver, Colorado, and Dallas, Texas, respectively.
For more than 40 years, Fred, Sr. worked as a skilled tractor-trailer and truck driver while hauling heavy machinery for Shiloh Equipment Incorporated, of Terrell, Texas. In his spare time, he was also an adept mechanic with the ability to repair practically every model of car on the road. He enjoyed taking them apart as well as completely rebuilding them entirely from spare parts. He could spend many hours tinkering in his garage with his sons after a trip to the salvage yard. Fred, Sr. loved listening to country music, watching westerns and sports, especially old western movies and baseball games, where his favorite western was Gunsmoke and his favorite team was the Texas Rangers. Fred, Sr. was a very hard worker and his strong work ethic is evident in his children today. His strength of character, his unwavering integrity and his kindness of heart are just a few of the traits held by the gentleman with a powerful presence.
Fred, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, C.C. and Emma; brothers, Doris, Bennie, Jim and brother in law, Sellers Dye; son, Michael Combs, and daughter, Olivia Marie Pollard.
He leaves those he shared in the teaching of the values and rules of a good life, loving wife, Mrs. Geneva Marie Combs, of Garland, TX; children, Mrs. Ive Mason (Larry) of Los Angeles, CA, Mr. David Gwin (Gwen), of Denver, CO, Mr. Nathan Johnson, of Garland, TX, Mr. Fred Combs, Jr. (Vicky), of Heath, TX, Mr. Timothy Combs (Kymberli), of McKinney, TX, Mr. Frederick Combs of Garland, TX and Ms. Karen Combs of Dallas, TX; Sister, Mrs. Christian Dye, of Terrell, TX; Mother in law, Mrs. Olivia Washington, of Denver, CO, Brother in law, Mr. Loye Washington, of Denver, CO, Sister in law, Mrs. Denise Washington, of Denver, CO. and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and family
