Obituary

Gartrell Cornelius Wofford was born on August 11, 1947 in Corsicana, TX. His father, Verdell Wofford was a businessman and resident of Henderson, TX. His mother, Lucy Wade Franklin was a native of East Texas, but lived several years in Dallas, TX.

From a young age, he was raised in the church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Prior to Gartrell's death he was a deacon and member of New Light Bible Fellowship Church.

Gartrell achieved several accomplishments throughout his life. He graduated from Arp High School in Arp, TX where he finished as a star basketball player who helped his team to win the 1965 High School Boys State Championship. In 1967, he enlisted in the United States Army. He bravely fought for his country in the Vietnam War, after which he was honored with the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals. Following an honorable discharge from the military, over the years, Gartrell continued to be involved with veterans' affairs, volunteering his time to the DFW National Cemetery.

Throughout his life, he was dedicated to spending time with his family, helping others, while touching countless lives with his sense of humor, generosity and kindness.

Gartrell is survived by his devoted wife, Earnestine Scott Wofford; his loving children, Sherry Wofford, Regina Wofford, Jacqueline Wofford, Ramonica Scott, Sheila Cooper, Sedrick Scott, Rosalyn Sharpe; grandchildren, Shalandria Cooper, Charles Holmes, Jr, Gartrell Cooper, Chiquita Cooper, Lamont Cooper, Latiira Cooper, Deshawn Diaz, Carneshia Wofford, Aaron Wofford, Laquarius Wofford, Laquisha Taylor, Xavier Wofford, Kerwin Franklin, Jr, Marquez Franklin, Shanaria Wofford, Christopher Scott, Cam'ron Scott, Terrance Scott, Tristian Scott, and Jayden Cooper; and 44 great-grandchildren.

His loving memory will also remain with his sisters, Shirley Mauldin and Tonya Wofford; and a plethora nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gartrell is preceded in death by his father and mother, Verdell Wofford and Lucy Wade Franklin; former wife, Rosie Lee Wofford; his children, Alex Cooper and Velinda Cooper; his grandson, Darryan Franklin; and his brothers, Calvin Robertson, Earnest Robertson, Michael Wade, Bruce Wade, Melvin Ray Wade and Johnny Roberson.

Gartrell was loved and respected by many. He will be deeply missed, and memories of him forever cherished.
