Gerald Lynn
West
February 16, 1964 – August 3, 2019
Gerald Lynn West was born on February 16, 1964, in Dallas, Texas to Lorene West and the late Oranzo West. Gerald graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1982. Where he was a star Gopher Basketball player wearing number 25 jersey, under the leadership of Coach Stan Hicks. Because of his ability to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court and make the basket he earned the name "Swish." He shared a special bond and love for his teammates. His love for the game awarded him a four-year basketball scholarship to Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma wearing number 24, coached by Coach Jack Hedden's Savages Basketball Team. "He was best known for his ball-handling and shooting ability. West was often referred on the Savage Basketball team as the "Silky ballplayer from Grand Prairie, Texas" Where he played with Harry Spivey and Dennis Rodman. West was known as a ball-handler deluxe that played with poise. There was no stopping Gerald he proved you can't keep a good man down. He soon earned the name "Super Swish" in college and you could hear the fans cheering as the ball Sssswiiissshhh!!! Through the net. His talent and love for the game awarded him an opportunity to try out for the NBA. Gerald was a pure shooter and when he was on, he was almost literally unstoppable. Gerald West hit a career-high 30 points on 15 of 19 from the field. His shooting ranges from 18-20 feet and rarely did the ball violate the rim on the way through. Gerald graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
His love for people served him well as part of the Juneteenth Celebration and helped in all facets of ensuring the best results. The committee could count on the volunteerism of Gerald in helping wherever needed including picking up deliveries and helping in setting up at Dalworth Recreation Center and Tyre Park. He looked forward to helping make this event a success.
He later took over his father's lawn service. He enjoyed beautifying his customer's property. But don't forget to pay for your service because he will hunt you down for his money.
