IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hallie Delois
Duncan
October 15, 1939 – December 27, 2019
Hallie Delois Duncan was born on October 15th, 1939. She was the third of six children born to Will Young, Sr. and Rosie (Brookins) Young in Athens, Texas. She graduated from Dalworth High School class of 1957. Hallie Duncan passed away in Grand Prairie, TX on December 27th, 2019 while surrounded by members of her family.
Hallie was preceded in death by her father, Will Young, Sr., mother Rosie (Brookins) Young, brothers Aaron Young, Sr., Rufus Young, John W. Young and Will Young, Jr.
She is survived by one sister Novella Martin (Harold), five children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Vickie Nix (Willie) and children Yolanda Hendrix, Tamara Wilson (Dae'Jon and Journee), NaTasha Nix and Willie Nix III; Carl Young (Jacqueline) and children Messhia Young, Aaron Rufus Young, Victoria Young; David Brown (Brenda) and daughter Brittany Alexander; Regina Duncan; and Valarie DeSha (Bertram) and daughter Gyntrie Pace. In addition, she leaves to cherish her memory four nieces and three nephews; Denise Harrison Kizzee, Calvin Harrison, Pamela Young, Aaron Young, Jr., Tonya Young, Stacey Martin, Shaun Martin, and close buddy and family friend Rodney Jarvis.
I Peter 4:10 reads "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." Hallie truly had a gift of a servant's heart. Throughout her life, she looked for opportunities to serve others. She volunteered as a reading tutor at the University of Texas at Dallas. She worked as a mentor with the Girls Scouts of America. Hallie worked at the Salvation Army, where she assisted and provided childcare to working mothers. In keeping with the spirit of servant leadership, Hallie went 'above and beyond' by opening her home to single mothers who needed a safe and welcoming environment until they were able to "get back on their feet." She asked for nothing in return. One of Hallie's proudest moments was completing her certificate of Counseling and Behavioral Health from the Potter's House.
Like her mother, Hallie was a 'praying woman' and a woman of great faith. She understood the importance of having a committed relationship with Christ. She encouraged her family and friends to trust in the Lord with all their heart and lean not on your own understanding. In times of adversities and testing of one's faith, Hallie never wavered, but her faith was like a tree planted by the waters- She did not move.
In essence, Hallie Delois Duncan's life was exemplified by Jerimiah 17:8 " For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."
