Horace Eugene Purvis was born on March 27, 1947, to the late John Jackson, Jr. and Mae Francis Jackson in Fort Worth, Texas.
Eugene grew up in Mansfield, Texas, where he attended schools in the Mansfield Independent School District. He later graduated from I.M. Terrell High School in the Fort Worth Independent School District.
Eugene, as he was affectionately known, married the love of his life, Delories Manning, and they were blessed with two children, April and Brandon. Their union was one of love, commitment, and companionship; together they built a strong and enduring union that became the cornerstone of his life.
Eugene found great joy in spending time with his family and close friends. He had a warm spirit that drew people to him and was well-liked by all who knew him. Eugene had a special way of bringing light into any situation. He was selfless, sincere, and kind qualities that will forever be remembered by those who loved him.
Horace Eugene Purvis departed this life on May 16, 2026, peacefully surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his children, April Purvis Burgess and Brandon Purvis; his father John Jackson, Jr.; his mother, Mae Francis Wilson; and his brother, Leslie Wilson.
He leaves the following to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Delories Purvis; three sisters, Francene Ford, Alberta Brooks and Diane Fantroy; two brothers, Curtis Wilson, Jr. (Portia) and Charles Wilson (Melody); his special girls, Shirley, Karla, Paula, Keisha and Phyllis; and wonderful friends, Sherman and Shirley Perry.
The celebration and legacy of Eugene's life will be continued by his grandchildren, Jason Purvis, Marquis Purvis, and Alexis Burgess; his great grandchildren, Kaden Purvis, Camren Purvis, Jordan Kipasa, Julian Purvis, Armani Maxey and Arion Maxey; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Horace Eugene Purvis’ presence, wisdom, and love touched many lives. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
