IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Iva Lee
Toney
June 19, 1936 – March 24, 2025
Affectionately known as "T-Cake" was born June 19, 1936, to the parentage of Freddie Duncan, Sr. and Susie Mae Fowler-Duncan in Montalba, TX.
T-Cake received her education in the Palestine Independent School District. She took great pleasure in sewing, cooking, dressing for success. She had a sense of style; an eye for fashion! From stylish suits to fashionable hats, she always dressed for success no matter the place. Whether it was church services/events, trips to the grocery store, doctors appointments - she loved dressing up and had an outfit for every occasion. She was always sharp! The fashion didn't stop with just her, she loved dressing others who allowed and embraced her fashion ideas.
At an early age, T-cake accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. In 1955, she settled in the Grand Prairie area where she became a 50+ year member of the Sunset Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Matthew C. McGruder for 48 years where she sang in the SBC Choir, lead the Pastor's Care Ministry and served on the Culinary Ministry. In 2015, the church's kitchen was named after her and her cooking sister, Macy Abrams.
In 1963, while choosing a watermelon she met her knight in shining armor, Herbert Robert Toney, Sr. They loved Grand Prairie and decided to make the Dalworth community their home. T-Cake was a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother who was protective of her family. She loved family time and was always open to family get togethers. She also enjoyed laughing, shopping, talking, playing spades and dominos. She was a wonderful woman and such a pleasant and joy to be around.
In 1984, T-Cake and Herbert opened T- Cakes Discount Cleaners. She loved her business and took great pride in helping people of the Dalworth and surrounding communities look their absolute best. She always gave compliments and shared her thoughts on how her customers' pieces could or would look sharp and well put together.
On Monday, March 24, 2025, the Lord called her name. She answered the call and went Home to eternal rest. Her sudden departure has saddened the hearts of her family but her memory will live on. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert Robert Toney, Sr.; her parents, Freddie (Big Daddy) and Susie (Big Mama) Duncan; daughter, Fredean Denise Abrams (Yogi); 6 brothers, 3 sisters, a grandson, Kasey Roberts and many other loved ones.
T-Cake leaves the following to cherish her precious, loving memory: her children, Penekay Duncan Nute (Willie), Diane Abrams Brown (Ezell), Herbert Robert "Bug" Toney, Jr. (Dinora), Kenyetta Toney Davis (Bennie); her grandchildren, Cotina Duncan, Shlonza Nute, Ramont Nute, Shaunte "Fluffy" Nute, Rashunza Nute, Lester Abrams, Kendall Roberts, Kedrick Roberts, Herbert Robert Toney III, Krystal Eyabi (Churchill), Kurtise McKinney, Cameron McKinney (Precious), Keiyona Jacquet, Addison Jackson; 15 plus great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Hattie Sloan and Verty Jackson (Johnny) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her Sunset family.
A true Matriarch, she leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, kindness and strength. T-Cake's giving heart, compassion and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her garden of memories will continue to bloom in the hearts of her loved ones forever.
