Obituary

On April 15, 1976, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Jacoby Stewart was born to Doris Stewart Myles and the late Alvin Mayes.

Jacoby embraced life, his family, and his friends with a warm and authentic spirit. Having accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior in his youth, he was baptized June 09,1985 at Zion Mission Baptist Church pastored by the late J.L. Wiggins. Jacoby was taught to trust God in everything. His life was anchored by his love for God, and his family. He enjoyed dual membership and attended Peaceful Rest Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana under the awesome leadership of Dr. R. Timothy Jones. He also became a steward under the pastoral care of Dr. Leslie Smith, at Amity Bible Church in Richardson, Texas. There he faithfully served as a youth mentor with AWANA. (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed) 2 Timothy 2:15.

Jacoby started his formal education in the Shreveport Independent School Board System. He graduated from Captain Shreve High School as a part of Class of 1995. He went on to attend McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. While there, he pledged and became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. His vigor for higher education would take him to Texas Women University of Denton, Texas, where he received his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science and his Masters of Science Degree in Business Administration. At the time of his transition, he was employed with Allstate Insurance as a Field Inspector.

He was a proud Worshipful Master and Charter Member of William J.L. Crisp Lodge Number 279. He will always be remembered by the Masonic Community. He received numerous accolades during his years of service.

In 2019, Jacoby played an integral role in the founding committee of the Juneteenth Festival in Wylie, Texas. That legacy continues to grow and thrive due to his vision and hard work. He was resourceful and creative with an ambitious spirit. His ambition opened numerous doors and opportunities for others.

Reading, barbequing, shopping for the latest fashions, hanging out at the gun range and gun collecting was some of his favorite pastimes. He had a kookie sense of humor and could always crack himself up with an infection laugh to follow.

Jacoby become a father of a son he named Jacoby Stewart, Jr. He would later meet and marry Sheila A. Hopkins, and to that union were born Anaiyah Jonet and Brealyn Lu Shay. He later married Antoinya H. Stewart and gained a bonus daughter, Sydni Symonne.

He leaves to cherish lasting memories: his children, Jacoby Stewart, Anaiyah Stewart and Brealyn Stewart; mother, Doris Stewart Myles; sisters, Shundon (his heart) Anderson, Linda Mayes, Denise Mayes, Diane Mayes, Aline Omowale and Estella Mayes; brothers, Jackie Mayes and Willie Mayes; his church family, Peaceful Rest Baptist Church and Amity Bible Church; sister-cousin, Terry Lubom; s'niece, Elaine Major; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, wonderful friends and loved ones.
