IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry Wayne
Turner
June 28, 1958 – April 3, 2018
Jerry Wayne Turner was born on June 28, 1958 in Lubbock, Texas. He was the eldest son of Jim Austin Turner, Jr. and Clara Mae Turner.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Clara Mae Turner and brother Dewey Ray Turner. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Irma Jean Clayton-Turner; two children: Jerry Turner Jr. and Ashley Jarvis; four sisters: Connie Louis Westbrook, Cynthia Ann Washington (W.M.), Deloris Jean Turner and Phyllis Denise Turner Warren; one brother Darrell Glen Turner (Pamela); 8 Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.
Jerry received his formal education in Lubbock and graduated from Estacado High School where he was an outstanding student athlete. Estacado is also where he fell in love with the trade of welding. Jerry was a welder by trade for over 40 years but was truly the glue that held the family together. Jerry stood on the strength of his beliefs and faith. He was a praying man that carried the torch of a husband, father, uncle, brother, and friend. He had a heart of gold and a gift of giving. If he had dollar he would give you fifty cents. He was an influential youth football coach and mentor to many. Jerry loved his wife Irma, more than any word, whispered, or spoken.
Jerry was known for his lively personality, contagious smile, and legendary stories. His ability to slam a domino, smack talk about the Cowboys, grill a rib, smother chicken with 30 weight gravy, and flip a pancake with a crispy edge made him that one person everyone wanted to be around. He feared nothing and no one other than God. He would always say "I am bar-none, I'll fight old folks, little kids, handicaps, paraplegics." If you knew Jerry you would know this would never happen, because he never met a stranger and would give anyone the shirt off his back.
