IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe Henry
Mumphrey
June 2, 1939 – July 15, 2021
J oe Henry Mumphrey, age 82, was born on June 2, 1939, in Tyler, Texas to the late James Mumphrey, Sr. and Lois Starks Mumphrey Brown. He was the brother of Jannie Lee Choice, Jimmie Lee Mumphrey, and James Mumphrey, Jr, who all preceded him in death.
Joe attended Dunbar Elementary and Jackson High School in the Chapel Hill of Smith County. He was employed by Tyler Pipe.
Joe was blessed to have met and later married, Mary Battee and they were united in holy matrimony for 30 years. In 1961, the couple relocated to Grand Prairie, Texas.
He loved to fish and hunt but not so much the cleaning and dressing. He always tried to pass that job off to someone else.
When Joe left Tyler, he became an Over the Road Professional Trucker. He worked for several trucking companies including, Delta Steel, hauling steel all over the country, before buying his own rigs and began to work for himself. He then turned those trucks into dump trucks and began delivering soil. Trucking was a good profession for him as he was known to love tinkering with anything with wheels, gears, and going fast. Even to go as far as trying to invent a Self-Perpetuating Engine. (That's a whole different story) .
If you knew or met Joe Henry, Pop, Paw Paw, Bro, Uncle Joe, and Mr. Mumphrey, you'd know to brace yourself, because his objective was to make you laugh and you would.
Joe Henry was in church with his family from a young age, attending Gee's Memorial Church of God in Christ with his family. In his later years, he became a member of St. John Church in Grand Prairie and sung in the Men's Choir.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children: Marshall "Anthony) Mumphrey, Joanne Mosley, Aleyah White, Linda Tate, Patricia Williams, and Christopher Mumphrey, Sr.; nineteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
