Joey Jay Coleman, 62, of Josephine, Texas, passed away on August 21, 2024, at Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas. Born on August 8, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois, Joey lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication to his family and community.

Joey attended Proviso West High School from 1976 to 1980 and then began his career with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) in 1989. Joey moved to Aurora, Illinois, in 2001 where he joined New Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Servant George Rayford and also married the love of his life, Janice Coleman, on February 15, 2002. After nearly three decades of committed service, Joey retired as a train operator in December 2016. The following year, he moved his family from Illinois to Dallas, Texas, to embark on a new chapter.

Joey was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather, and his leadership was a guiding force in his life, providing strength and comfort to those around him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vircine Young, who passed away in 2014, and Eddie Joe Stanford Sr., who passed away in 1990 and his aunt Naomi Phillips.

Joey is survived by his wife, Janice Coleman; his children, Latesha Williams, Joey Jay Coleman, Jr., Jeremiah Coleman, Martrell Coleman, and Jovaris Coleman; as well as his bonus daughters, Keochia Parker and Jelissa White(Andre).

Joey is also survived by his siblings: John Coleman(Sharyce), Gregg Coleman, Tracy Young, Willette Grant (Walter) Rosalyn Stanford, Eddie Stanford, Jr.(Leticia), Anthony Stanford( Brenda), and LaShon Reed. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Terrianna Walker, Melesha Woodard, Miah Coleman, Jayla Coleman, Jhéne Coleman, Jayden Coleman, Trammel Coleman, Ayden Coleman, and James Coleman; along with his bonus grandchildren, Kadin Cooper, Kamiya Cooper, Jareya White, and Jaliya White and his last living aunt, Ruth Harris along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

Joey enjoyed life to the fullest spending his time bowling, playing checkers, dominos, and spades, taking road trips, and listening to old-school music. His presence will be missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
