John Lewis McGuire was born on February 1, 1947 in Rockwall, Texas to the parentage of JT McGuire and Annie Mae Gibson. He received his formal education in the Rockwall Independent School District.

John accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul AME Church in Rockwall, Texas where he grew up at. He moved his membership to Full Gospel Holy Temple in Garland, Texas and later moved his membership back to St. Paul AME Church.

He worked various jobs throughout his life. He retired from Rockwall Nursing Care Center in 1998.

John met and later married the love of his life, Mrs. Ruby Harrell McGuire on October 15, 1967.

John loved to fish, play dominoes, cook for his family and friends but his favorite thing to do was spending quality time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by both his parents, JT McGuire and Annie Mae Gibson; grandmother Lena Jones and his sister Lena Mae Gibson.

John leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 50 years: Ruby McGuire of Rockwall, TX.; two sons: Ronny McGuire and Tony McGuire  both of Dallas, TX.; two daughters: Tracie Colbert (Charles) of Greenville, TX., and Lora Mitchell of Lancaster, TX.; two brothers: L.H. Gibson, and Lawrence Gibson (Nancy) both of San Francisco, CA.; one sister: Carol Harrell of Rockwall, TX.; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two special people he called "son": Marcus Cleaver of Mesquite, TX., and Tosta Emory (Angie) of Forney, TX.; special cousin: Nia Wagner of Plano, TX., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
