Obituary

Johnnie Lee Freeman received her call to report to eternal rest on Monday, December
12, 2022. She was born on May 19, 1935, to the parentage of Otha Sr. and Fannie
Rand Nelson in Lott, Texas. She grew up in a loving home with leadership by
example to always trust in the Lord, and to always remain faithful in Church.
Johnnie was a 1952 graduate of A.B. Davis School in Lott, Texas where she played
on the basketball team. She was a huge fan of watching the hometown baseball
games along with her friends of the neighborhood.
Approximately three years after graduating from High School, Johnnie met and
married James (Dub) Freeman of Temple, Texas. She would begin a "new" journey,
starting a family with the love of her life. A year later, the three of them along with
an older brother moved and settled in Grand Prairie, Texas. She met many new
friends of which were "stay at home" Moms as well. Her main focus was making
sure her house was clean and her family was well taken care of while she prepared
great meals …especially her "famous" fried chicken and cornbread!
Family entertainment consisted of movies at the Drive In, Sunday afternoons
watching baseball games, hanging out at Tyree Park and she loved watching the drag
races at Yello Belly drag strip.
She took pride in being a "Granny" to her grand children and great grandchildren of
whom she loved dearly. She was also a childcare provider to many others. She would
always give attention to each of them to make them feel special. Each one was her
"favorite." She would always say "I love my Children and they love Me"!
She was a firm believer of the following Bible verse: Proverbs 22:6
"Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart
from it."
She moved her church home membership to the old St. John Baptist Church, later
along with her husband and children and united with Morning start Baptist church
and finally settling in at Sunset Baptist Church for many years. She was a faithful and
active member; always ready to be a servant of God and the Church. When her health
wouldn't allow her to attend services, she made sure to tune in to the Word of God
and listen to spiritual songs on her cassette player.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband James Freeman, her parents Otha Sr.
and Fannie Rand Nelson; brother Otha Nelson, Jr.; Sons in Law Douglas Bennett and
Dennis Barrett.
Those left to cherish her memories: Children Margie Barrett (Victor), Nathaniel
Freeman, Willie Freeman (Becky) Patricia Bennett and Rita Freeman; Grand
Children Lontesa (Michael), LaQuesta, Anteria, Antyonesia, Willie II, James III,
Kyrstle (Brandon), Uniquria (Kory) and Christopher; Great Grand Children
Quadarion, Alexis, Serenity, Keundre, Trinity, Keira, Korianna and Amryn;
Great-Great Grand Child Majesty; Sister Dorothy Baker; Brothers Glenorce Nelson
(Liz), R.T. Nelson(Jo); Special Friends Alberta Watkins and Josephine Smith.
In essence, Johnnie (Jon) Freeman was a loving, kind, praying Woman,
a great Mother and Grand Mother.
She fought a good fight and her life exemplified II Timothy 4:7
"I have fought a good Fight; I have finished my Course; I have kept the Faith"
She will be greatly missed and will ALWAYS hold a special place
in the hearts of those who loved her:
Her devoted Family, her chosen extended Family,
her many Friends and her loving Church members.
