Obituary

Johnny Chapman, Jr. was born to the parents of Cora and Johnny Chapman, Sr. on February 6, 1949. He was raised in the Dalworth neighborhood of Grand Prairie, Texas where he eventually returned to become a pillar in the community.

John loved music and was often seen with his saxophone or picking up another instrument to teach himself, such as the guitar or piano. His musical talent led him to travel around the world performing with well-known artists such as Johnnie Taylor, the Isley Brothers, and James Brown to name a few.

Johnny was drafted to the Vietnam War where he honorably served his country as an Infantry Soldier for the Big Red 1 Infantry Division until 1968. While deployed, he earned both the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Vietnam Service Medal. Upon his return home, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department until deciding to return to Texas.

The Lord called him to preach the gospel, and he preached his first sermon on July 3, 1994. John not only imparted invaluable spiritual lessons to strengthen our faith but also impacted our lives deeply with his unwavering compassion, kindness, and wisdom. He spent the rest of his life preaching and teaching about the good news of Jesus.

John is preceded in death by his mother, Cora; his father, Johnny Sr.; his brothers, Theodore and Walter; and his son, Chad Chapman.
He leaves to carry on his legacy his wife, Velma; his brother, Kevin; and his children, Cory (Delilah), Cyle (Elisha), Geoffrey (Ja'Mile), Johnny III (Lourisi), and Oneisha.

John is also survived by his grandchildren, Cyle Jr., Chase, Chance, Kameron, Tatyana, Dioni, Heaven, Harmony, Nevaeh, Myles, Theodore, Hunter, Kahea, Laila, and Sophie.
