On July 21, 1978, an angel was born to the parentage of Carolyn Jean Douglas and John Mack Scales in Dallas, Texas. LaKesha Shantay Brown was a shining light who possessed a heart of gold that touched everyone who knew her.
LaKesha attended the Dallas Independent School District in her early years. She was a graduate of the Class of 1997.
Being an outstanding and caring lady, she met the love of her life, Joel Shaun Brown and they were united in holy matrimony on March 21, 2003. To this union, they honored their love with two children, Ja'Quay Leishaun Brown and Joel Shaun Brown, II. She loved being a mother and felt that it was one of her greatest gifts from God. She was blessed to be a grandmother of two amazing grandchildren, JaKari Ahmad McCoy and Janiya Shantay Criddle of whom she loved dearly.
LaKesha loved life. Her fun spirit, infectious smile and laugh could always be seen and heard. A wife, mother, sister, auntie and friend to many, LaKesha enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also loved cooking, shopping and watching her favorite tv shows.
On May 9, 2024, at the age of 45, LaKesha's earthly journey ended when the Lord called her home to Glory. Preceding her in death are her parents, Carolyn Jean Douglas and John Mack Scales (without their union, we would not have been blessed with such a beautiful angel); brother, Carl W. Douglas; grandmother, Ethel "Granny" Jackson; nephews, Roderick D. Douglas and Carl D. Carpenter; mother in law, Cora Washington; brother in law, Byron Washington, Sr.
LaKesha leaves to cherish her precious memories and love; her husband and soulmate of 25 years, Joel S. Brown; a beautiful daughter, Ja'Quay Leishaun Brown; a loving son, Joel Shaun Brown, II; two grandchildren, JaKari Ahmad McCoy and Janiya Shantay Criddle; sister, Yolanda R. Douglas(Craig Carpenter); uncle and aunt, Rodrick and Anna Jackson; aunt, Shirley Jackson; two brothers in law, Craig Washington (Tonya) and Derick Washington (Inga); 10 nephews, 6 nieces, 21 great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
LaKesha will definitely be missed by many relatives and friends, and her love will live in our hearts forever.
