Obituary

It is with great sadness, yet fond memories that the Wright family announce the passing of 81 year old Larence "Larry" Edward Wright, Sr.

Larence (the oldest of three children) was born to Francis Mae Young and Monroe Wright on July 25, 1943, in Borger, Texas. From Borger, Larence's family moved to Chillicothe, TX where they lived until he was 8 years old; then they moved to Vernon, TX where he received much of his education. He completed his education while in the military.

A United States Navy veteran, Larence served during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal during his six years of service. He served as part of the crew on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier. He separated from military service with an Honorable Discharge while stationed at the Naval Air Station at Quonset Point, RI.

Larence liked music. He enjoyed listening and dancing to 'oldies but goodies' and calypso music, but his all-time favorite was the music of the late Bob Marley. At his 80th birthday party, when Larence recognized one of his favorite tunes, he began rocking his shoulders and swayed from side to side, then shouted, "Watch out now!"

Larence's health had been declining for some time and in the early morning of Friday, November 15th, while in the home of one of his daughters, he quietly transitioned to his eternal home with the Lord.

Larence is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, MC Wesley; a sister, Willie Fae Wesley; his maternal grandmother, Carrie
Watson, and a son-in-law, Dedrick Rose. Left to cherish his memory are Bernita L. Wright (wife of 27 years); his children, Karlys Wright of Lubbock, TX, Larinda (Jerry) Rogers (Wright) of Dallas, TX; Clarissa Rose (Wright) of Mesquite, TX; Larence Wright, Jr. of Arlington, TX; one sister, Lillie (Elder Larry R.) Rodgers of Lubbock, TX; one brother, Lonnie D. Horton of Hawaii; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
