IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lillie V.
Vaughn
February 4, 1922 – January 21, 2018
On February 4, 1922, God blessed Dave and Beulah "Sweet" Johnson with a beautiful daughter. They named her Lillie V. Johnson. She was born and raised in Carbondale, TX with 5 brothers, 3 sisters and 3 additional siblings preceded her in death during infancy.
Lillie accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She served the Lord showcasing her voice at El Bethel in Carbondale, TX and various churches. She took pride in her work with the Gospel Singers, which consisted of Irene Vine, Willie Nell Reynolds, Veanna Stephanie and her sister, Beulah. Years later after relocating, the Gospel Singers grew to include her daughters Bertha and Jeanette.
She married RP Vaughn on Jan 8, 1938 and celebrated 52 years of marriage. Their union led to the birth of 7 boys and 7 girls.
Lillie had a captivating spirit, a true lover of family and friends. She enjoyed working for Dr. W. Duane Hinshaw of Garland, TX. She had the pleasure of being their caregiver for over 20 years. During her retirement, Lillie and her husband moved back to Redwater, TX until he gained his wings. Although her love for RP never faded, she found herself loving John Wayne, James Arness (Gunsmoke), and Chuck Conners (The Rifleman).
Her love for God would not allow her to make many enemies. She continued to serve the Lord at El Bethel Baptist Church in Rowlett, TX under Rev W. McDonald. She later transitioned to United Holiness Deliverance Temple under Apostle H. Rogers until her health became a factor. She then humbly provided much care and laughter to those she loved most, Her Grandchildren!!
Lillie was cared for by daughters Gwendolyn Jackson, LaWanda and Carl Ellis (son-in-law) over the years. Lillie was surrounded by loved ones the night the angels flew from Heaven to receive their beautiful angel home, they took her to a place she longed to be. She opened her eyes to see the ONE who loved her most. We can take comfort in knowing she is resting in the arms of our Lord. As only Lillie can say, "I'm sitting here looking pretty" in my mansion in the sky!
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, RP Vaughn Sr.; daughter, Lillie Mae Vaughn; son, John Edward Vaughn, Sr.; grandson, Stacy Darrell Vaughn; her parents, Dave and Beulah Johnson, and 10 siblings.
Those that are blessed to remember her memories are 6 sons: Charles (Mary) Vaughn, Eugene (Cozetta) Vaughn, David (Verena) Vaughn, Bobby (Bobbie) Vaughn, RP (Virgettia) Vaughn Jr, Richard Vaughn; 6 daughters: Bertha Johnson, Jeanetta Henson, Vanilla Vaughn, Sharon (Anthony) Turner, Gwendolyn Jackson, LaWanda (Carl) Ellis. Adopted Daughter Shabora Williams; 1 sister: Beulah Pumphrey; Special Friends: Louryne Spaulding and Annie Props. As well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
