IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loistine
Barringer
December 3, 1932 – July 11, 2023
On December 3, 1932, Lois was born to the union of the late
Sudie and Phineas Brantley in West Helena, Arkansas. She was
the youngest of their four children which were Charles
(Marjorie), Napolean, AKA Benny (Carrie) and Lena Pearl all of
whom proceeded her in death. When Lois was five, Phineas
passed away and later the family relocated from Arkansas to
Chicago where Sudie earned income as a Master Seamstress until
she retired.
Lois attended Dusable High School on the South Side of
Chicago. Later she attended night classes to learn typing and
clerical skills which landed her a job with the State of Illinois,
Cook County Assessor's office. She resigned from her position
due to cutbacks in staffing in the early 70's, accepting the
severance offered. She became employed by Nabisco Brands
thereafter where remained an employee until she retired in 1998.
She attended Salem Baptist Church under Reverend James
Meeks on Chicago's South Side.
Lois loved life and she knew how to live it! She spent a lot of her
leisure time with whom she always described as her sister/best
friend, her sister-in-law, Pauline "Peen" Holiday. She didn't let
any grass grow under her feet as she loved to be on-the-go even
in her later years. Lois loved playing cards and having friends
and family over to have fun. Rarely did she let anyone beat her at
the card table! When she partnered up with longtime family
friend Steven Howard of Chicago, it seemed they were
unstoppable in Bid Whist or Spades. She also played poker, the
game of Uno, Pokeno and Bingo with her children and
grandchildren. She jokingly earned the nickname "Hustlestine
Barringer" by her grandson Kevin because she pretended not to
know how to play Poker but beat everyone at the table and we do
mean bad!
In the fall of 2020, Lois made the decision to leave her beloved
Chicago and began a new life in Garland (Dallas), Texas where
she remained until her passing on the afternoon of July 11, 2023.
Lois leaves to mourn and to cherish her memories: Six children: Abdul El-amin (Aesha), Regina Black, Antonio
Barringer (Taneisha), Kimberly Daniel (Alvan), Angela Ward
and Antoine Cloyd.
Twenty-four grandchildren: Erica (Kevin), Shonda (Dwayne),
Taleah, Ebony, Alvie (Kevin), Imani, Cameal (Michael),
Reginald (Taocque), Kristel, Kandis, Kevin, Keyonna, Akeem
"A.J.", Kendrick, Antonio, Desmond Jr. "D.J.", Chanel, Isaiah
W., Christopher, Myles, Isaiah C., Antoine Jr., Bella and Toni.
Four honorary grandchildren: Devonte, Chris, Adam and
Joni. Twenty-nine great grand children and three grand great children.
