IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorene
West
May 8, 1936 – November 21, 2019
Lorene Jones West was born on May 8, 1936, in Omaha, Texas to Raymond and Hattie Jones. Lorene met and married Oranzo West, to this union three children, were born Randall, Trena, and Gerald. Lorene attended school in Omaha, Texas. The family moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in the 1950s, where she enrolled in the Dalworth School. She was an outstanding student and top basketball player, for the Dalworth Dragons. She was one of five students to be the first class to graduate from Dalworth in 1956. She was a member of the Dalworth Alumni.
After graduation, she attended Business School. She was employed at Parkland Hospital as a ward clerk. She worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Company, Texas Instruments, ARA and Quaker Oats where she retired.
Lorene accepted Christ at an early age and attended Morning Star Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Saints Ministry and the MSMBC Senior Praise Team. She loved attending the Senior Saints outing at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington.
Lorene loved being around her family, she could not wait for the after-Thanksgiving shopping spree with her sisters with whom she shared a special bond with each one of them. Lorene was the one who would keep you laughing at all of the family functions.
Her two favorite pass times were watching sports and politics, she was a diehard sports fan of all types. You could not touch the remote control unless she gave you permission. At one time she had four of Grand Prairie High School Girls basketball starters living in her house. Before and after every game she would have them sit at the kitchen table discussing the dos and don'ts of the game. She would talk about politics all day, we all have had several heated conversations with her in reference to politics where she won most of them.
Her hobbies were going to garage and estate sales, picking up cans and dumpster diving was one of the things she enjoyed most. She came across several rare finds.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Raymond and Hattie Jones; sons Randall and Gerald West; brothers, James, Raymond, Bob, John, and Lee Jones; sister Lois Jones.
Precious memories of Lorene will be Cherished by her daughter, Trena James (Gary) of Arlington, Texas; daughter in law LaQuita West; of Grand Prairie, Texas; granddaughters, LaQuisha Lee of Grand Prairie, Texas; Destiny Lowery (Shannon) of Grand Prairie, Texas; Paula Mitchell (Chris) of Grand Prairie, Texas; Courtney Clemons of Dallas, Texas; grandsons, Damont Owens of Grand Prairie, Texas; Rashad West (Belinda) of Grand Prairie, Texas; Christopher Williams of Grand Prairie, Texas; Eleven great-grandchildren all of Grand Prairie, Texas; two brothers and seven sisters; godson, Pastor Preston Dixon (Kechia) of Grand Prairie, Texas; godson, Chauncey Smith of Grand Prairie, Texas; play daughter, Zailey Dior Crawford and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
