November 24, 1941 – January 6, 2024
L.Z. McGencey was born on November 24th, 1941 to the parentage of the late Mack McGencey and Maybell McGencey in Henderson, Texas.
He grew up in Garland, Texas and received his education at George Washington Carver in the Garland Independent School District. He accepted Christ at an early and joined Eastside Baptist Church in Garland, Texas under the leadership of Reverend Rosebud.
He was happily married to the late Carolyn Jean McGencey for 38 wonderful years. L.Z. took pride in his family and was an extremely loving and devoted father. He and Carolyn enjoyed family gatherings together and simply enjoyed life until her passing.
L.Z. worked at Texas Instruments for over 25 years from which he retired. During his employment at Texas Instruments, he met many people of which they established forever friendships.
L.Z. loved a good conversation and a good laugh; he never met a stranger! He was always the one to lend a helping hand and a kind word
to those he encountered. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to L.Z. He enjoyed watching his favorite NFL team - the Dallas Cowboys.
L.Z. passed away on January 6, 2024 to enter the gates of Heaven with joy and peace. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn McGencey; parents Mack McGencey and Maybell McGencey; brothers Sam McGencey, Richard McGencey, Ray McGencey and sister Juanita Barlow.
Those left to cherish his memories include: his loving sister Hazel Turner; stepchildren Sharon Sims, Michael Sims, Glenda Sims, Melissa Sims; grandchildren Kendrick Thomas, Christopher Sims, Money Mon Sims, Zicari Sims, Afeni Sims, Ky-mani Sims, Amari Sims, Armani Sims and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, other relatives and friends.
L.Z.'s legacy will continue, and his life's journey will forever be cherished, celebrated and honored by all the people who loved and appreciated him. He may not physically be with us any longer, but he will continuously live within our hearts and spirits all the days of our lives.
