IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marquita
Carter
January 28, 1984 – March 16, 2023
Marquita Jenae Carter was born in Bellflower, California on January 28, 1984 to her parents Michael
and Jeanette Carter. Their beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, cousin and friend transitioned into
the arms of the Lord on March 16, 2023 in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 39.
The family originally resided in Long Beach, California where Marquita attended Woodruff Christian
School through the 5th grade. Marquita loved sports and soccer was her first choice to play when she
was in the 3rd grade.
In 1995, the family relocated to Plano, Texas. They became members of Shiloh Missionary Baptist
Church, which is also where Marquita was baptized by Pastor Isiah Joshua, Jr. Marquita attended
Hendrick Middle School through 8th grade and continued playing soccer. At age 11, she tried out for
a Select Soccer team and made the team as a goalie.
Marquita also began playing basketball as well. After graduating from Hendrick Middle School,
Marquita attended Jasper High School where she continued to play basketball and Select Soccer.
Later, Marquita made the Plano Senior High School basketball team. This was the 1st year
sophomores were allowed to play varsity basketball in Plano. That year, the team (although ranked
61st) played in a State Championship game! As a sophomore, Marquita was named first-team AllDistrict. In her junior year, she averaged 11 points and 12.4 rebounds per game, earning first-team All
-District and second-team All-Region Honors. During her senior year, Marquita was named first-team
All-State, first-team All-District, and first-team All-Region. She was also named to the All-State
Team by Bob Springer's Texas Magazine.
Upon graduating from Plano Senior High School, Marquita earned a basketball scholarship to the
University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. During this time, she had the distinguished honor of
becoming a member of The Zeta Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Sorority, Inc., where she met and
enjoyed her line sisters and the entire Delta organization. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in
Kinesiology. Finally, Marquita enrolled in Collin College in McKinney, Texas, where she earned an
associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Like a tender reed, our beloved Marquita was preceded in death by her grandparents Allen and
LaFray Carter; Florence Times; Greeley Atkins; and Eddie Gregoire, Sr.; Aunt Mary Louise White;
Uncle Lawrence Davis; Aunt Vivian Richard; Uncle Leonard Richard; Uncle Eddie Gregoire, Jr.;
Aunt Teresa Anderson; and Uncle Stanley Atkins.
Marquita is survived by her daughter, Tiana Carter; parents, Michael and Jeanette Carter; sister

loved Marquita dearly and will miss her presence.
