IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Estella
English
September 18, 1940 – November 2, 2022
Mary Estella English was born on September 18, 1940, in
Athens, Texas to the parentage of the late Maurine Devereaux and
Abraham Lincoln Devereaux.
Mary was one of (five) children: four girls and one boy—Joy, Lynn,
Mary, Glenda and Abraham Lincoln Devereaux, Jr. Mary leaves to
cherish one sister Glenda R. McCoy.
Mary received her education in Athens, Texas where she married her
sweetheart, Ocie Bernard English who preceded her in death in 1987.
Mary and Ocie were married thirty-one years. To this union four children
were born: Ocie English Jr., Michael English, Keith English and Larry
English. Michael preceded Mary in death in 1998.
Mary united at an early age with Second Baptist Church under Pastorate
C.W. Wilson.
Mary and Ocie moved to Dallas in 1967 where she was employed at
Texas Instrument for twenty-four years—1967-1991.
Mary joined the Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas (1972-
1999) under the Leadership of the Late Dr. U.S. Cornelius. Mary
continued serving under Pastor Dr. Stephen L. Jones (1999-2022). Mary
was a member of the Senior Choir, served as a Sunday School Teacher,
Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Assistant Teacher of Baptist
Training Union, and President of Women's Missionary Union from 1984
to her demise.
Mary was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in 2014. Mary walked down to
the altar at Mount Sinai asking Pastor Jones and her church family to be
in prayer with her , that God would continue to bless her to be able to
continue to fulfill the positions of which God had blessed her to serve.
God answered her prayers! Mary was able to serve and remain in
worship until she gained her wings. She will remain in our hearts forever.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory Ocie B. English, Jr (retired from the
United States Military after serving thirty years), along with his wife Joy
English (home from the Phillipines). Keith E. English (retired as an
Electrician for the City of Dallas twenty plus years) and wife Tanya

and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and special
friends.
