Obituary

Humility personifies the spirit and character of our beloved Maxine Brooks Reed. She was born on September 18, 1940 to the late Willie Mae Watson and Max Brooks in Shreveport, LA. Maxine confessed Christ at an early age and united with Mary Springhill AME Church.

Maxine graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, (Class of 1958). She loved her school and all it represented. She stayed in touch with many of her classmates and returned for their class reunions as recent as 2013.

She loved music which inspired her to learn to play the piano. As a teenager Maxine took a part time job where she fell in love with sewing. She enjoyed making clothes for herself and others. She also enjoyed crocheting as a hobby.

Maxine graduated from San Francisco City College where she received her Associates in Business Administration. While living in San Francisco Maxine worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield where she retired. She and Jimmie later relocated to Henderson, Nevada.

Maxine and her husband Jimmie Reed recently celebrated 21 years of love and life together. She would often say "he's my best friend you know". We would smile and say yes he is. Jimmie held a special place in her heart and we know he will miss her dearly.

Maxine was employed by Harrah's Casino & Resorts where she worked in their Accounting Department. She retired after 13 years. After a short time of leisure Maxine decided she wanted to do more with her time so she went back to work and gave her heart to the children she worked with at Clark County School System.

While living in Henderson, Maxine's faith in God lead her to join Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Sam Roberson. She loved serving God and enjoyed spending time with him. She found joy in serving on the Usher Board as one of the Lord's doorkeepers. Maxine was heartwarming and had a smile that was beautiful and welcoming.

Maxine enjoyed spending time with her family. Family was very important to her and she would often make trips home to Shreveport and Dallas to visit. Eventually they moved to Mesquite, TX to be closer to family.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Jack & Willie Mae Walpool, her father Max Brooks, brothers Willie, George, Johnny, John and stepdaughter Kimberly.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Jimmie Reed, stepdaughter Teresa of Florida, brothers Charlie of Houston, Jack of Dallas, Fred (Deborah) Shreveport. Sisters Lucinda, Melissa (Levon), Mary (Taylor), Georgia (Garry) all of Dallas and Lillie (Marshall) of Shreveport. Her sisters-in-law Yvonne of San Francisco, Levonia of Shreveport, Annie Spencer, Cherrie Johnson and Evelyn Mitchell all of Little Rock, Brother-in-law Rev. Fletcher Reed (Gwen) of Modesto, CA.
