Mazzie Burgess Moses was born on August 7th, 1949 in Florence County, South Carolina. This beautiful baby girl, that was destined for great things, was brought into this world by her loving parents, the late James and Cora Burgess. On Wednesday, July 4th, 2018, Mazzie was rewarded for a life well lived and blessed with passage to be in the presence of the Lord.
Growing up in South Carolina, Mazzie and her family eventually moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she married her husband, Fred, and had her children, Michelle and Frederic. Soon after, the family spent a few years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and then moved to Plano, Texas in 1980. There, Mazzie worked for ARCO Oil and Gas before joining Fred as Vice President of Telecom Electric Supply Company.
Known for her smile and her kind heart, Mazzie was a woman of great faith and laughter. She always made time to listen, and would consistently put the needs of others before herself. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church is Mazzie's Church Home, where she had served in various capacities, including Past Assistant Youth Director and Past Church Clerk.
Mazzie was very involved in her community and served in several organizations. As Past President of Plano North Metroplex TX Chapter, The Links, Incorporated from 2011 to 2013, she implemented a program called 'Inspire Moms', that served as a mentorship program for single moms. She also served as the Past Vice President of Membership of the Plano Community Forum, a past member of the Women's Health Advisory Council of Texas, a past member of the Civic Strategic Planning Focus Group, a former Board Member of the Collin County Community College Advisory Board, a former Board Member of the Private Industry Council of Collin County and several others.
In 1997, the Plano Chamber of Commerce recognized Mazzie with the Athena Award, an honor that is given to women for their outstanding service and dedication to Plano and the surrounding communities. Collin College recognized Mazzie as a Living Legend in 2006. This recognition is given for contributions to Collin County and for exemplifying the college's core values of Learning, Service and Involvement, Creativity and Innovation, Academic Excellence, Dignity and Respect, and Integrity. Mazzie earned the Unsung Hero Award in 2012 from the WBE (Women's Business Enterprise) Hall of Fame for her contributions and commitment to Telecom Electric Supply Company's numerous awards and recognition's.
The loving memories of Mazzie will be carried on by her husband, Fred Moses and their two children, Michelle D. Moses-Meeks and Frederic B. Moses; along with her son-in-law Kenny Meeks and Granddaughters, Taylor and Tylre Meeks; Daughter-in-law, Christy Moses and Granddaughter Jessica DeBusk.
