Alexander
August 31, 1945 – February 23, 2024
Mildred Jones Alexander was born August 31, 1945 to Raymond and Hattie Jones in Omaha,
Texas.
Mildred moved with her family to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1952. She enrolled in Dalworth
Elementary School in the Second Grade. She graduated in 1964 from Dalworth High School
where she was on the A&B Honor Roll. She was a member of the pep squad and crowned
Football Sweetheart for two years straight. She attended Mountain View College Extended
classes through SGP High School for Office Procedures and Business courses.
She was married to Louis Vern Alexander on October 19, 1965. To this union 2 sons were born,
Trent and Torin Alexander.
Mildred was a member at Morning Star Baptist Church where she was baptized under the
leadership of Reverend J.S. Simmons. While at Morning Star, she served as President for the
Junior Women Mission for years. She was the Teacher for Mission I, The Adult Women
Sunday School, Advisor for the Junior Women, Senior Choir Member, and Secretary for Pastor
Drake. She was part of the Dallas Area Junior Women where she served as 2nd Vice President
in 1984. She extended her knowledge about the Bible by attending Southern Bible Institute
where she graduated from the Basic Program in 1984 with a 3.5 GPA. She went back for four
more years and graduated from the Advanced Program in 1991 where she received the Dean's
Award for Outstanding Academy Attainment.
She later moved her membership to Sunset Baptist Church in 1992 under the leadership of
Reverend M.C. McGruder where she served as Adult Women's Sunday School Teacher, Young
Matron's Bible Teacher and adviser, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Assistant
Director of Christian Education. She was named Woman of the year at Sunset in 1996 and
served as a Certified Instructor for Original West Texas Baptist District Association Congress
of Christian Education.
Mildred worked in the Dalworth community as a Crime Watch coordinator. She worked with
Dalworth Link Association, Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful, Weed & Seed Program, and
Dalworth Leadership Council.
She retired from the City of Grand Prairie. After retirement she started working for the Grand
Prairie Independent School District as a substitute teacher.
Mildred was crowned Ms. National Convention of America Junior Women Auxiliary Queen in
Phoenix, Arizona in 1981. She was recognized and honored at the Missionary Baptist General
Convention of Texas Nineth Annual Women and Girl Conference in 2012.
Mildred is preceded in death by her father and mother, Raymond and Hattie Jones; six brothers
and four sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons; Trent (Stacia) Alexander, Torin Alexander;
grandchildren, Chanse Alexander, Torin Alexander, Jr., Taylor Alexander, Kiaria Crawford,
Telesha Patton, Brooklynn and Jordynn Ramirez; one brother, Earl Jones (Lois) of Oklahoma
City, OK; three sisters, Loretta Buchanan (Robert) of Fort Worth, TX, Soloma Gates and Sheila
Jones of Grand Prairie, TX; two sister in laws, Bertha Jones of Arlington, TX and Betty Jones
of Denver, CO; special friends, Dorothy White and Josephine Smith; and a host of nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
