Nona Catherine
Jones-Walker
February 17, 1938 – January 22, 2024
Nona Catherine Jones Walker was born on February 17, 1938 in Omaha, Texas to the parents
of Raymond and Hattie Jones. She attended Elementary School in Omaha, Texas. The family
relocated to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1954 where she attended Dalworth High School. She was
the school's first "Queen" to be voted in by the student body. She was also a member of the
National Honor Society. Nona graduated from Dalworth High School in 1958.
After graduation she moved to Dallas, Texas to attend Nursing School where she received her
RN certification. She worked as a nurse for many years until she changed career paths. She
went to work at Texas Instruments and later Photronics where she retired after working there
for a combined 38 years.
She met and married Jeff Walker who proceeded her in death.
Nona accepted Christ and attended Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church until her health
failed her. She loved attending Sunday School and was a member of the Senior Saints and the
MSMBC Senior Dance Team.
Nona loved life. She loved being around her family and friends. You could always find her on
the dance floor. She loved Jazz and Blues music. Nona loved going shopping and couldn't
wait to go on the annual shopping trip with her Sisters and her Sister in laws. She also loved to
shop for antiques and loved going hunting. She loved celebrating her birthday and if you
missed calling her, she would call you and ask you "What is wrong with You." Nona was a
diehard Washington Redskins fan and later became a Dallas
Cowboys fan.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Raymond and Hattie
Jones; six brothers, James, Raymond, Bob, Lee, John and Joe;
three sisters, Lois, Lorene and Bettye.
She leaves to cherish her memories a special nephew, Rondalus
(Dokie) Gates of whom she raised and loved dearly as her son;
brother, Earl Jones (Lois) of Oklahoma City, OK; four sisters,
Loretta Buchanan (Robert) of Fort Worth, TX, Mildred Alexander,
Soloma Gates and Sheila Jones all of Grand Prairie, TX;
a special great niece and Goddaughter, Nona (Kandi) Thompson;
two sister-in laws, Bertha Jones of Arlington, TX and Betty Jones
of Denver, CO; special friends, Elnora Kennedy, Bettye Chambers
and Gloria Hicks; a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, other
relatives and friends.
We would also like to thank her caregiver, Leah Black (Ms. Black)
as she would call her for all of her help as it was greatly appreciated.
